Cigars vs. Vapers

Inhaling ANY products of inefficient combustion will be harmful to the lungs.

I would not single out the cigarette paper since the 'tobacco' inside actually consists of more paper than the outer wrapping!

Paper is made from cellulose fibre which is the basic structural material of most plants, including the tobacco plant.

The tobacco in most cigarettes is a mixture of tobacco leaf and a paper-like product called 'reconstituted tobacco'.

Tobacco manudfacturers use cellulose fibre to bind this reconstituted tobacco in cigarettes as well as to prepare the cigarette paper that wraps the tobacco.

So you see, the smoke from the paper that wraps the 'tobacco' is no worse than that from the 'tobacco' itself!

Bear in mind that vaping does nothing to ween you off nicotine, it merely can help to break the habit of lighting up in some situations.

But since one still inhales and generally treats the vaper exactly like a cigarette I don't really see how it helps to stop the habit of smoking in general. It is only a solution if you don't want to stop but believe that vaping is better for your health...for which there is no proof beyond extrapolation.

If you really want to stop smoking I think gum or patches would be more help than vaping.

The advantage of vaping is it does do something to break one of the nicotine habit.

Vape juice is available in various levels of nicotine all the way down to 0mg. My son just quit using a vape. He worked his way down to 0mg juice and stayed on it for a week, then quit completely. He still had psychological addiction to deal with, but the physical addiction was done after 3 days without nicotine.

I quit in 73. I still remember the withdrawl.

The principle of vaping is not the issue, it's the oils (diy or others) used in the vaping device and the ammount of vaping that causes those diseases. Many vape in Europe also, but the rules for the liquids used for vaping are way more strict down here and they get controlled on a lot of issues ...

But i don't like it. I'm a smoker now, and when i quit (wich i tried already, but it's hard), it will not be with vaping. I find it disgusting. Cigarettes are also no good, i know, but still better if you ask me...

Galu, not exactly. I started it because in the radio I listen in AM790 all days at the morning, the is a medic who talks about medical issues, errors, myths and the like in a micro-program inside the main program. The day I started it, he spoke about the myth of the vapers and when I opened the e-newspaper here in the PC, I saw more or less the same comments printed in it, but with more explanations.

Independently of what cause impulsed me to did it, if it collaborates to help those that want to abandon smoking, I think that it will be the best that I can do.

Smoking can improve music enjoyment:

Many years ago my wife and I joined my brother and his wife in Montreal for the annual jazz festival. There was a free outdoor concert in Place des Arts, which was a tribute to Louis Armstrong featuring Wynton Marsalis and bunch of other fine musicians. We got to the venue a little late and were quite far from the stage but it was too crowded to get closer. My brother produced two fine cigars and we lit up. The people in front of us looked a bit annoyed and moved away, so we moved forward. This kept happening until we reached an optimum distance from the stage, and there was a bit of space around us! :)

Osvaldo, I think in another 20yrs - if not less- there’ll be a substantial upswing in reported cases of RSI / arthritis to the thumbs and necks of that millennial cohort addicted to texting while walking and VR headset gaming, respectively.
This is the best case IMHO, much worse are the transit accidents and deaths caused by looking the cell's display while crossing avenues, which already happened here.
Can you believe me that taxi and truck drives their vehicles while writing SMS or talking by phone?

The results are below.

Those accidents are the result of human mental weakness, addiction, no different than alcohol or drugs.
They're SO glued to those tiny screens that they have no more "real" life, just a "virtual" one, it's all contained in an "app".
Their whole lives are centered around some "app".

And that's pathetic, honestly.

At least one good thing about it all...
With drug and alcohol addicts, you can't tell right away if they have a sickness.
But walking down the street, or anywhere in public, you can easily see a cellphone addiction.

Zombies are among us!
