I'll probably use it for a less current hungry Class A amplifier for the future and thanks for the suggestions. I still have to build the Alpha 20 eventually. Hugh, I totally agree with what you're saying, but just to be clear, X PM'd me about this PSU and I told him I was working on this BJX for the future. He offered some help trying to find out if it would be a good candidate for this amplifier. Although I'm very happy by how fast he got the information, I did not go on this thread and ask him to modify it for me in the first place, there was some background talk before this was posted.

I have the Darlingtons on order, and if the opportunity presents itself, I will see if I can test the 7A load using a 4ohm 200w resistor. The thought of that much current going through the SLB is kind of scary but it should do fine. The ripple current in the bulk caps is what concerns us the most as it will heat the first cap up quite warm. This is a case for 105C rated caps for sure.

Looking at 105deg C caps X, they are twice the price or more for the same size and the ripple current rating is less and also they seem to be a bit longer for their height - so always a trade off.

I’ve got 85C rated 15,000uF caps big see that the first one gets warmer due to higher ripple current - just making first one 105C would make sense. Although the temps are nowhere near 85C.

Quick heads up on the BOM posted the other day: A search for the part number for the Aavid heatsinks on the SLB BOM returns nothing at Mouser. I tried a few variations, and had no luck. The part number for the corresponding part on the SLB-SR BOM, 531102B02500G, does work on Mouser, and I'm guessing is the part intended for use on both versions.

Note that even a cheap stamped aluminum serated style fin heat sink works fine. It’s not a lot of heat so big Aavid’s are not critical. Look at my build photo to see what I did.

The big Aavids look nice though - if you really want those - get them.

Some independent testing of the SLB topology on an actual SE Class A amp. This data is provided by Vunce and voltage is 37.4Vdc at 3.925A current. Red trace is the 10R for R117 and yellow is 1R5 for R117. Voltage drop on both is about 3.2v. The yellow trace, well it’s smooth like buttah!

Vunce reported that he found the source of the hash: it was a SMPS plugged into the same mains back-contaminating the supply. Once disconnected, we get this front he SLB (too is with 10R and bottom is 1.5 for R117):
