I was looking at attenuators. Everything from a regular ALPS pot, to the Muse chip and even Variable Gain. I guess Variable Gain to attenuate volume would change the carefully selected harmonics, which is the whole point of the preamp.
The Muses chip it’s really interesting but as far I know is max 20K pot but maybe I am wrong?
Try to ask Meldano here ... ;-)
Thanks Carsten... I already asked to meldano but he have no more boards available.
I can just get the Muses from Audio Academy already done... quite expensive but I didn’t find any other source
no place to allow for mounting.

You refer to the pot itself or to the LED display?
You refer to the pot itself or to the LED display?
No - the entire thing has nothing to allow it to be mounted

Does it use the opamps or just the volume?
It is a digital volume control - the muses chip is the primary element but there is a programmed chip to control all the functions and allow for remote control and display

The muses pot itself should be installed as a normal pot... no doubt here. Regarding the LED display, I can see from the picture that there are mounting holes on the pcb (at least the 2 that I can see). You can use those with small standoffs as support?
Rewind: as far I can see it’s just a pot, no opamp installed

Can you get an encoder with a threaded neck?
I was just pondering this exact question 🙂
or in the spirit of diy , could I thread the neck ...

You are right 6L6... I didn’t noticed that the encoder is not threaded 🙂
Dudes - I just saw Pappa post the new "The DIY Nutube Preamp" on the FirstWatt site. Pass mentions a kit, but try as I might, he does not reference where to buy it. Hmmmmm...do you guys know if it will show up here or at PassDIY or FirstWatt ??
Pardon my ignorance, but shouldn't something like this Assembeld HIFI Remote Preamplifier Board Audio Volume Control Board-in Amplifier from Consumer Electronics on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba Group
be as good or better as Musses?

You can find threaded versions, Bourns or Alps...
Here is a manulal for Meldano's volume:
Muses Volume
The encoder is threaded on the first pic.
Meldano's suggest Alps EC11B types, but I just found vertical types.
Here is a Bourns:
PEC11L-4220F-S0015 Bourns | Mouser Hungary

thank you - now that you say, when I was ordering parts , the specified part was vertical and I substituted for the horizontal but clearly wasn't paying attention to one of its most important functions. 😱

I’m getting close to turning my build on but I have a question.....
Nelson says to measure the output of the JFET buffer. Where exactly is that? Is that T7 and T8?
Should the pots be center before turning on or turned all the way clockwise or counter clockwise?

Yes. The Source pins of the output followers.
