19v? They need about 2A Per "module" to be safe So, yes should work for 4. If it gets really warm you might consider using more supplies for longevity....

Although we ship the kits with 2 PSUs, each putting out over 4A for one channel, that's overkill and I figured if they cost about the same why not stress the PSU less?

Never seen a

Have you thought about any if the liquid cooled solutions for overclocked PCs?

After doing the 2.2k resistor mod and now contemplating going up to 24v SMPS, I don't see how my little aluminum heatsink can handle it anymore.

I just ordered these, and will use a fishtank pump to circulate water through a reservoir and some sort of heat removal for the reservoir. I know Bcmbob is an expert with water cooling for the F5.

I will have some fun with my WACA or Water-cooled ACA.

Well a computer radiator and pump would make the most sense, of course as they are made for the purpose. There are aquarium pumps for air AND water? An auto heater core could be very cheap radiator if you go to a junkyard. Of course just bigger heatsinks are going to be less hassle, and probably cheaper, but you want to have fun.The cheapest and easiest is a slow turning fan of course- more than doubles your heatsink cooling. Or just point a small desk fan or loose comp fans at it during experimental stages.. Nelson has a little circuit somewhere to fire up a fan then throttle it down be quiet.

Funny, it has a "Pass" sticker on the water block

Little 40mm cpu fan does wonders

As a quick and dirty test, no messing with water, an old 40mm 12v fan from a CPU cooler strapped to the heatsink works very well. Heatsink is now barely warm, and was too hot to touch more than 5 seconds before. I will probably skip the water cooling as it's too messy. I am using a 7812 regulator (bolted to heatsink) to provide the 12v for the fan. Forced convection is way more efficient than natural convection.

Here is the fan:

Here is detail of 7812:

Here it is powering my XKi fitted with a PA130-8 coax (custom):

This speaker works very well with ACA as it is 90dB sensitive full range that I have added a tweeter and 1st order crossover. The PA130, now called the "Daytonator" has also had some surgery (5 radial cuts and re-glued a la Revelator).

I think I am going to use these little copper beauties for my ACA next:

This is an old fan from a circa 1996 Pentium 1 cpu so it's had a rough life and bad bearing so it is a bit noisy. Similar fans for this type of heatsink specifies 25dB noise so should be pretty quiet. The specs actually say "copper". But anodized aluminum works well too. Wondering if there is enough room to squeeze two MOSFETs onto one of these or should ea get their own?

Heatsink Material:Copper

The product title says aluminum, and the pics look like gold anodized aluminum to me, but I could be wrong. I'm guessing there'd be enough room for two devices per sink, but probably not enough cooling capacity. You'll have to figure out a way to get good thermal coupling, as the base doesn't look very thick, and while you might be able to tap it for a mounting screw, you might not be able to torque it down very tight. At a couple of bucks a pop, though, there's little risk in experimenting.

If you have an electronics surplus shop near you, you might want to check there for cpu coolers and other sinks. My local surplus shop has a bunch of them both new and salvaged, that are much more robust than that Alibaba one. I got my copper sinks w/fans there: ACA Concept II. They also have the exact same heat sink in aluminum.

Of course, I'm in Silicon Valley, so...

avoid small size fan are noises and short life ...

Yes, those fans certainly look like they would be very quiet. I have already ordered these and at $3 I can't complain about longevity. Will try them first and see how they work. Will require a simple drill and tap on flat of heatsink to attach the mosfets.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Hello,

My 11 year old daughter and I are building an Amp Camp Kit and some Fostex Speakers. We also need a preamp to match the amp camp. Can someone please point us in the right direction? Is there a pre amp kit similar to the amp camp amp that will pair well with the amp camp amp and fostex speakers?

We are both first time builders and need all the help we can get.

Thanks,
Adam

The amps will work with the output of a Phone or that old iPad you gave her last year ;) and using the voulume control on that. However for best quality and more volume ( or less efficient speakers) a preamp is some thing I realize we should get! Especially it it looked similar. How cool would that be? To have matching components on your shelf!

Even though there is no gain, the B1 is still my favorite front end for my ACAs. I have two and love them sooo much!!

Have a look at the Bottlehead Quickie with the PJCCS upgrade it would be a fun kit to do with your daughter as she will be able to help with assembly plus its a sweet sounding little preamp which I think has great synergy with the ACA.

Its a DHT tube pre amp that's battery powered its low voltage so really safe I have mine hooked up to some Fostex FX120 full range drivers and really does sound very good indeed .
