7:00 PM , 6C Vancouver, BC - another gorgeous day in one of the more beautiful big cities on the west coast.
The sunset view of English Bay from 10th Floor lounge Providence Bldg, St Paul's Hospital - pretty amazing, then turn a bit to the north, and lights on the gently frosted snow hills - definitely some charms hereabouts.

Yes; Victoria, Nelson, Quebec City, and few more...depending on the time of the year.
Do you like snow, lots of it? ...Surfboarding (snowboard)? ...Parachute skiing jumping (from mountain's edges)?
The Netherlands have some great spots too; mountains, forests, lakes, cities, towns, villages, architecture, beautiful vistas, serenity, calmness, tranquility, peace, ...

Hey, I love The Island as much as the next guy, but on a clear January morning the panoramic view of from the North Shore down to Mt Baker is quite simply world class, and the sun at both ends of the day are, well -super, natural
n'est ce pas, mon ami Robert?
Sitting in line at the Tsawwassen ferry terminal 5C in brilliant sunshine and a view of those mountains, I could think of worse ways to spend an hour and half

For much a week to rent it for a ZM holiday present ?
For ZM its for free....provided a good big flood and a 'helpful' gale is forecast for the period of occupancy.
😀

-2C here now and snowing, -10C expected overnight, so is more snow. Really flippin cold tomorrow.
Our power went off at 11AM this morning for us and 1485 other houses. We have electric heat, so when the inside temp dropped to 54F (about 12C) and Appalachian Power couldn't give us a time estimate, I decided to drag out my generator and get it started before darkness and more snow came. At about the same time I managed to pull start a 10HP engine that hasn't run in 4 years, the power came back on. It was 5PM. Made for a fun and unproductive day.

-24C expected tonight, -19C currently... It has been a mild winter. ~20 years ago I recall it was -35C and just before that we had an inch or so of rain/slush on frozen ground. My tires were frozen in and I had to rev up my '83 GTI and pop the clutch to get out... 😉
If the fireplace was going I'd seriously consider taking a snow bath.
This is my back porch or what you call it, my primary suspect is my youngest daughter wearing the blue Frozen dress and armed with the (also Frozen) magic wand.
The first shot was just me fumbling, but the chair gives a nice view of how much snow we got in the last few days, there was maybe 4-5cm before that.

A Floridarian's first snow!
No, I have spent at least a dozen winters here over the last 20 years. My firs snow....Rochester Minnesota, blizzard of 1978? (maybe 77 or 79, don't remember). I spent 2 weeks there. The high temp for the 2 weeks was 1F. Low, -27F.
Its just another picture in the series I sent my friends back in Florida every year. Here is the one from 2012. It's probably posted here as well back about 2 years.

Last night I forgot to unplug my soldering iron so when I awoke this morning the house felt a little warmer.
I built a timed outlet for my soldering iron. If I forget it, after a period of time I set, and can reset on the fly, it shuts itself off.
Ok, playing in the snow early this morning and ripping through it on a mountain bike was fun.......but spending the last 2 1/2 hours shoveling 80 feet of driveway buried under 8 inches of the white stuff sucks.....I'm over it now.

They're serious winter temperatures we haven't had anything like that for a few years. I think November '11 was the last time we had a really cold spell.
I remember in 1995 it went down to -27°C and there was no fresh vegetable availability for a few days as it was not possible with the machinery available to dig them out. This was just after Christmas so I assume reserve stocks had been exhausted by the heavy seasonal demands. I expect countries with temperatures like this frequently are better equipped to harvest frozen vegetables!
