Guess where they had the meeting?
I'm sorry, I was not paying attention, too busy with playing Hawaii files on YoTub and searching where the other ball went.
Not much warmer in TN, George.
6F (-14C) this morning with a high expected to run around 24F (-4C). Snow tomorrow afternoon, more cold, followed by more snow this weekend.
When I left for work this morning, my dog was in bed under a sweatshirt. I've got the pellet stove running downstairs for supplemental heat. The strip heat on the heat pump is switched off. The thermostat in the hall says it's 60F (15.5C) in the house.

Here in Cali it's 62F outside the house, and water is still wet. I'm sure there will be some sort of karmic adjustment down the line.
And there goes the 2nd one.

The weather is here, wish you were beautiful.
Neither is true here at the moment.
Wait.....the weather WAS here, just not the kind I wanted.....so I hid in the basement with a soldering iron. Built a quick power supply for an analog music synthesizer before heading out to shovel this stuff. There is a driveway under the Hondas. There is a dirt road between the Comcast poles and the tree line.
These pictures were from last week. Round two is about a day away.

Snow has finished for the moment, currently about 17F (-8C) here just south of Boston.
Holed up in the man cave which is a bit chilly tonight.

Youse guys are all citing ample reasons why I moved out to Cali from Ithaca, NY in 1980. Not that Ithaca isn't a beautiful town, but I was tired of the white stuff in the winter, esp. scraping it off my windshield and front steps. Job opportunities in 1980 weren't all that fantastic, either.
Mine are getting larger in the warmth.
No wonder you have not walked up to the crater.
😛😛😛
[Everything going well Cal?]
Brian, surely you do not wish yet another celebrity to get poofed ?
The tricky part here of winter hitting is alternate freezing and thawing, changes everything into a slide show overnight.
Cobblestone is the worst, I recall several days off in my highschool days, as the last 500 yards to school had turned solid flat ice.
There've been years when the freezing/thawing occured so many times that the salt storage had run out.
Last couple of days, a salt spreading truck drove past my house every evening.
Last night I took two steps outside and figured it wiser to get back inside.
We always keep a bag of salt/sand mix in the garage, for getting rid of ice on the pavement around the house.

Tubey, lives not far from here and the only thing about his reports of the weather is a bit of occasional understatement.
Now last year's project was in Buffalo so I splurged and bought new cold weather gear. My old stuff was new in 1969 and served me well on those occasions when I was out in -20F. The new stuff is even better.
Last few days it got cold enough so that I actually had to wear gloves outside. Still haven't had to use the ski mask or hand warmers yet.
Some years back one cute date had the brilliant idea of taking advantage of weather like this to rent an IR camera with a group of friends and shoot pictures of everyone's houses.
Now I am still working on mine. It has in floor radiant heat. I can adjust the water temperature to increase the heat source. As there is only one heater for both domestic hot water and heat that does lot the maximum temperature a bit. So last year I added one 8' baseboard (12,000 BTUs) unit on the first floor. Now it has to drop below 10F before I need to increase my water temperature from normal 125F.
But it seems if I add storm windows that should save me another 6000 BTUs in the really cold weather.
Still have more radiator that I can install. Next place might be to heat the basement. But insulation beats more heat. Utility bills run around $120.00 per month.
So I actually like the cold spells. Of course I do have a snow blower for heavy snowfalls. Under a few inches shoveling is actually still fun.

OT, but those cobbles are terrible. We have them in our local town. They are very unevenly laid and torture the suspension on most cars. Both of my last two cars (both Audi A6 Quattro, 2.7 & 3.0) have had to have front suspension rebuilds including replacement springs as they were broken! My neighbour has had the same with two Mercs. both within 8,000 miles, and the Mrs has had her VW done twice, despite only using it as a local car. It really is a disgrace that 'they' are allowed to inflict such expense on residents.😡

The snowy day last week brought me outside for about 2 1/2 hours to shovel snow. I had to resort to wearing shoes, a thick T-shirt, and gloves. It wasn't terribly cold (about 32F) but long term exposure will suck the heat out of you. My hands get cold first, the rest of me stays warm in minimal clothing as long as the wind is calm and I am doing some physical work.....that has NOT been the case for the last few days.

Don't have a snow blower. I tried a neighbors, but it turns into a machine gun on a rock driveway.
Another neighbor had a snow blade mounted on his quad bike. Since He just turned 80 years old, I do his driveway, ours and enough of our dirt road so that we can get out of here. I can scrape our rock driveway down to about 2 inches, then shovel the rest. That's good enough for the 4WD Honda to get out.

I think insulating the basement will be my next major project. The bare concrete block walls are cold, and the basement is one huge open area with a large exposed cold surface. This results in a rather cold basement, and the acoustics SUCK. I plan on doing some recording / mixing in a little home studio, so some compartmentalization and insulation and acoustic treatment is needed.
Recently, i re-did a big section of the basement floor. I pulled up the old 5/8" plywood floor on strapping, ramset in, that rotted out after 20yrs. Lesson, no wood or drywall touching a cold concrete floor.
So I repaired by, fixing broken concrete(no fun), applied 3 coats epoxy paint, 4x8x1" extruded polystyrene (Dow SM) shiplap(taped joints), 12mm laminate. Nice and warm. Ain't too much cheaper.the walls are 2"SM, green drywall, zinzer paint. Nice and warm now.

Poor old knees took a beating ;-) had to space it out, took all last winter to do it. Burned up all the old wood, nice fires 🙂
Still working on finishing it up. Just re-did the water supply, properly mount the UV sterilizer and 5micron sediment filter, for easy service. UV ballast smoked, after I did a service to the the quartz tube/replace a dead lamp, wife got to watch. I was lucky, I determined a F54T5 lamp ballast (which I have a few of, thank you past employer) will operate the UV lamp just fine. new ballasts for this lamp are in the $100-200 range = rip off. lots of fun keeping the ship a float.

More a disgrace that manufacturers release products that are not fit for purpose.......................................

In the past Aus car manufacturers advertised that their vehicles were designed and tested for local conditions.
That meant thousands of miles on outback washboard gravel roads and lousy bitumen.
Old designs and ideas sure, but despite suspension wear and steering wear these cars would still get you there for the next three decades before major repair work.
Dan.
It took me three hours of shoveling to clear my driveway enough to get out today. I made it to work before noon, so I figure I did good. I paced the driveway off at 125
yards (114Meters). I'm getting too old for shoveling. I may buy a snow blower.

Yesterday the winter storm named Ilias visited. It snowed all day. Today was relatively uneventful, but tomorrow storm Jonas comes to town. There is already about 3 inches of snow on the ground and the creek out back is frozen over. The TV has been predicting doom. I'm glad I'm not in NYC or DC. The TV is calling their area "blizzardpocalypse."

Latest reports in UK are that DC will get 20" today.
The mind boggling bit for me was 14" forecast in Kentucky. For some reason the home of fried chicken and snow don't compute in my mind.
I hope the forecasters are over pessimistic, otherwise things are going to go very non linear.
