The Weather

the best kind for quelling the shivers.

I've been using Musto (& Hyde) for the last 3 decades.

Hollow polypropylene fiber underwear starts to smell worn rapidly, due to the inherent characteristics of the cloth. But dry or wet, I've yet to discover an equivalent.
Helly Hansen also has a hollow polyprop line, not up to Musto level but a third of the price tag, still beats all other thermal wear.

I figure there was a clogged/dirty injector this morning

If the fuel filter hasn't been changed in years, it could be an issue.

Another issue is the ethanol spiked gasoline that we get. It is hydroscopic and as such has an affinity for moisture.

Most gasoline companies have a different formula for winter and summer. The exception is climates that don't have cold winter, like south Florida, and possibly parts of the southwest and maybe southern California.

The Jeep Patriot we had was basically a PT Cruiser with a Jeep body on it. It also used the same 2.0 and 2.4 liter engines. Ours was a 2.0. We had trouble with it (stalling, hesitation) on cold days in Florida even when it was brand new. After a few useless trips to dealer, a friend told us to change brands of gas. Switching from Shell to BP solved the issue.

After we moved here we started using Walmart gas because it was cheaper. In the summer time we noticed a run - on condition when shutting the car off......That should NEVER happen on a fuel injected car! Again switching back to BP fixed it. I repeated the WM gas test, and the condition returned, so we don't even put that stuff in the lawn tractor now.

There were no issues with the Honda or the old Ford truck we had on Shell or Walmart gas, so maybe the Jeep's engine is a little picky.

Our Jeep was a 2009, and it used the joint venture GEMA engine. The 2.0 and 2.4 liter engines were a joint design between Chrysler, Mitsubishi, and Hyundai (and Kia). My 1997 Neon (the car on which the PT was based) used a Chrysler only engine (known for blowing head gaskets). Not sure when the transition occurred.

My son's father-in-law was engineer for a fire department in Cali -- they'd turn the engine off when going through the tunnels with the hook and ladder. You can imagine the experience of being the tiller guy when the backfire occurred!

Do not park near a fire hydrant in N. California, even if there's no fire.

I hadn't thought about that song in untold years - somehow it bubbled to the top of my mind as a result of the joshing around about blankets. I had to google the song to find out who did it - just another tune I heard on thr AM radio as a kid. The same guy did " Ain't Gonna Lie", the flip side of "98.6". I'm finding that when I listen to the old tunes now, I hear detail I was't getting with the crappy AM radio.

Some of what we listened to on that crappy radio, or even the TV set as a kid is best left buried in the past. I must admit that.....

I actually went to a Monkees concert when I was about 15. The Monkees had a rather bad TV show running at the time, and my mother watched it. I even convinced her to buy my ticket to the show, since she didn't like the "stuff" I listened to. It was a defining awakening in my life. That show was when I realized that I would never be a "real" guitar player.

Like several of my friends, I had dreams of being a rock star. We all played guitar, and a few of us had some experience playing in garage bands. One of my friends told me about the opening act for the Monkees show in Miami. It was a relatively unknown band called The Jimi Hendrix Experience.

Actually, the AM station I listened to in Orlando, FL as a kid (WLOF) was pretty eclectic and gave me a solid foundation in what was happening in rock and soul at the time. The radio itself, a cheap 5-tube special (6BA6, 6BE6, 12AV7, 35W4, 50C5) was the usual rubbish. I didn't hear a decent stereo or FM radio until I went off to college. It seems that most of my life I've been making up for lost time one way or the other...

It's another lovely cool (3C) sunny day here. Time to snuggle in the "sunny spot".
