Just assembled a TABAQ box variant with dual Tymphany TPY03W012o 12-ohm drivers in parallel. Xmax is rated at 2.5mm, which is plenty with dual drivers rated at 30W each.
Here are pics of the prototype:
Dimensions are more or less the same as the Tabaq box, with a second driver cutout about 104 mm above the first.

I think for double the speakers the volume of the cabinet should be double, and the port area as well. How does it sound anyway, do You like it?
My prototypes don't look anything that good!
But yes, I was told that dimensions and port would be different adding an extra driver.
Still, like it was asked, how does it sound to you?

The original TABAQ was designed with cross-section and volume for the 4" Tang-Band with larger effective area (Sd) than the 3.5" Tymphany that I'm using. It is a happy coincidence that the stock TABAQ works fine for a fairly large range of cone diameters, ranging from about 3" to 4.5".
In this case, it sounds better with 2x 12-ohm Tymphany drivers than with 1x 6-ohm Tymphany driver, probably due to smaller cone excursions at any given power level. The lower-end bass extension also has more authority. I'm using a BSC network of 0.75 uH || 5 ohm || 0.47 uF, and this may well need further tweaking by trial and error to get optimal sonics with these drivers.
@Perceval: Thanks, however the credit goes to the (professional) cabinet fabricator. I just gave him Bjorn's plans with my penciled changes for dual drivers, cloth baffle, etc., and just waved my hands around for some other stuff, and he just did the stuff perfectly. I only assembled and soldered the drivers, BSC network, connectors, etc.

Hi linixguru, nice work !
2 drivers would normally require some re-design regarding volume. I dont know these speakers. Never mind - If it work as is, thats fine !

Hi
Bjørn
Bjorn, thanks for your design and your kind words. The driver is a Tymphany OEM Kevlar-cone driver that is not as well known as its Vifa-branded siblings, the TC9FD and the TG9FD.
I just tested TABAQ with Visaton FRS8.. Great sound from this small speaker.....

Just had a listen to your demo, and I think they sound pretty good! Good luck with your project, as I think you you will have many wonderful listening sessions!!

On the subject of TABAQ speakers: I posted some pics of mine which used W5-1611SA drivers. Could I stop at that? No. I have swapped the 1611s for W5-2106, a development of the 1611, from Blue Planet Acoustic TangBand W5-2106 Wide range speaker | DIY and they are now even more amazing.

Are you using BSC, and if so, what are the values of the passives?
not yet... it have to be calculated for this speaker...but i think, after few hours of listening, it can be without...I'll try, maybe make some measurement.... but firstly I have to calculated....
It's easy to guess based on Vifa/Tymphany driver and width of cabinet. Then fine tune R to taste. I would say 0.8mH to 1mH and between 6R and 12R. If you have stuff on hand give it a try - easy to do outboard of speaker and listen before soldering up internally.
If I had to pick one number I would say 1mH and 8R.
Of course, a sim in Akabak or MJk would let you predict it with pretty accurate results.

1.0 mH 3.9 ohm seems to be a good shot every time I use MJK's model with different drivers. Of course the actual behaviour of the driver could need other values to adjust the sound.
Often I do not use baffle step correction filters. With the speakers close to the wall and a listening position 2 or 3 meters away I preffer the sound without the BSC.
Do a test with and without and use the one you like the best.

Hi
Bjørn
I've looked into the TB range as they are close to where I live, but because of their smallish Qts, they might not have the bass boost that higher Qts drivers will have.
Hi Danzz, the W5-2143 looks very interesting. I have used the similar W-2106 from Blue Planet Acoustic in Germany in my TABAQ they are a great improvement on the previous W5-1611 on which it is based (no mention of it on the TB website). Paper cone rather than polypropylene seems to give a warmer sound. My base is quite good in my enclosures (can't seem to upload a photo)

One thing, though... And it is very subjective, but, those santoprene surrounds look very ugly to me. Hope they do a good job.
Hi danzz I agree with perceval that the Qts is too low for the TABAQ family.
OOps.. What a pity... I was asked to make as a wedding present for one of my wifes best friend some nice sound set up, and I thought of the w5-2143 in a Large tabaq paired with a TPA3116 amp with a 6n3+6Z4 preamp would make a nice system...
Thanks anyway!!!..
