Here's what Tek has to say about it in their manual.
..... and we're not landing a probe on Mars or anything. 🙂
Well, many additional thanks for this copy from the Tek manual! I guess the phenomena I stumbled upon is sufficiently explained now!
But as I'm active in aerospace research anyhow, well, Stereo on Mars, one day, who knows?
All the best,
Ulrich
Hi Michael, thank you for the lab hangouts and vlog.
I too have some of these monster SITs and am wondering if you have tried loading the 2sk180 with the Hammond 193v. If so, how did the numbers look?
Also, I have a 2sk180 and a 2sk181 that you can cut open if you want.
Best regards,
PSz

Hi Paul, I sure did, and I'll be sure to include that in next weekend's show. I'm not familiar with the 2SK181. What's that one?
Meanwhile, Lab Hangout #2.1 is uploading now and will be posted in about an hour 🙂

Great job on 2.1, I enjoyed it!
I'm excited to see the 193v numbers.
The 2sk181 is the same package as the 180, but has slightly different ratings.
181 is 5A IDSS, 800v with drain resistance of 2 Ohms vs the 180 which is listed as 8A, 600v and 1.5 Ohms. All other listed specs are the same.
I only have one 181. It came in a shipment of 180s accidentally. I haven't blown it up, so you can pull curves from it if you want.
Best regards,
PSz.

Have you had a chance to check your 2SK182ES yet?
I traced both of mine and they are identical. So, they are either identically defective, or that's just what they look like. In any case, we'll find something fun to do with them. I'll check the gate leakage in circuit this week and see if maybe that's throwing things off a bit in the test amp.

My question : for 2SK 182ES test parameters are they different ?
Kindly regards 🙂

Here's #2.1 Lots of new goodies. Have fun.
Dear Michael,
followed your advice & had a lot of fun watching Lab Hangout #2.1 yesterday evening. Thanks for all your effort!
I'm curious to see what the next issue might cover.
Ulrich
Nelson, now that you've moved, where do you play the big giant-*ss baffles? Do we get to see the new man cave? 🙂
Papa is having two major problems :
1. He's shy ,
2. forced to make a living with personal hobby

1. He's shy ,
2. forced to make a living with personal hobby

I can certainly relate to shyness. When I finally met Nelson at BAF, my shyness kicked in and I sort of went mute for a minute. It reminded me of a joke about mathematicians:
What's the difference between an introvert mathematician and an extrovert mathematician? An introvert mathematician looks at his shoes when he's talking to you. An extrovert mathematician looks at YOUR shoes.
Beer helps a little 🙂

at least you're thinking , writing and speaking English ;
....... while I am/was ( on BAF and here) thinking and writing on English , while speaking is in another realm ......

Hi Michael and Diyers
Only basic equipement on bench and i am ready to test 2SK182ES
please tell me what i can do with one multimeter, lab psu and resistors ?
Prefer ask experimented & avoid mistakes.
Hope yours response be useful for another diyers who are passionate by sit transistors.
I report values with pleasure .
Thanks a lot and have fun 🙂

Christophe

Nelson's instruction are a great start. Do you have a 10 ohm power resistor or something of the sort?
Would a demonstration help?
