TPA3116D2 Amp

I just aquired a pair of mint yamaha ns1000 and I'm now looking for a good amp to go with them. Would a tpa3116 be a good option, anybody tried the ns1000 with the tpa3116 if so whats your impression?
I have a Adcom gca510 and a Hypex as2.100d amp that I could use also but would like to know and get some feedback if any of you have experienced the ns1000 and tpa3116 combo or maybe the MX9708/9 ?
I live in an apartment and can't and don't listen at loud levels.

Hello,
I would just like to ask other owners of SMSL SA-60 a question.
Can you lower the volume to zero? Even when i turn the volume all the way down i can hear the music. I have it connected to SMSL sanskrit dac.

Sound is weary good. Maybe a little to little bass at lower volumes.
Is there any worthwhile modifivcation?

Regards
Boki

That looks a lot like a 2.0 version of the 2.1 Breeze Audio box. The implementation looks ok - nothing special but be careful of broken parts on delivery as those inductors are heavy and not mechanically stabilized. I have the 2.1 and had to fix several caps that were broken off at the legs due to the fat inductors hitting them during transport. It sounds ok - not as good as a Ybdz Wiener or YJ Blue with OSCON's. But, for that price just the box, knob, switches and binding posts are a good deal and you can put any amp you want inside.

Trying to catch up with all the Class D work over the past few years..
My first buy is the Breeze Audio 2.1.. Listening, I can imagine what might be possible, for building, a more Hi End unit..

Planning to build a unit, with multiple inputs, nice full width case etc... Purchase the boards etc.. 100w/100w aprox

How does a preamp, amplifier stage fit in? Is a separate preamp, Obsolete and unnecessary? Power amp or Integrated? Dual Mono?

Maybe, you can point me in the right direction..

If I at least have a nice unit built with good boards and power supply, I can apply the mods as I learn them..

It's a big Thread, point me to the right posts is fine..

Thanks!

Welcome aboard. 🙂

Many of us do not use pre amps as we find the gain sufficient. Typical value is 26dB and can be adjusted more or less with change of gain setting resistors or even a pot to generate discrete voltage levels for 5 different gain settings. The gain setting is read by amp on power up and changing requires power down if using pot. Changing gain changes input impedance and the value of the input cap you need to reach deep bass so beware of that. If you use a 10uF cap on inputs you should be fine regardless of gain setting.

Some folks like using a tube preamp stage and report nice sound. I have also seen multiple switcher input units.

The wiki is a good place to start. But I will say the two best bang for the buck mods are:
1. Change main power rail caps to high quality ones and OSCON's 330uF 25v SEPF from Panasonic seem to work very well.
2. Install bootstrap snubbers at output with 330pF caps and 10ohm resistors.

Good luck.

Yes premade pbtl with 4 inductors 🙂 Maybe they actually hooked up speakers and source to their 3116 this time befor releasing finished amp, and were surprised by turnoff pop they thought they had designed out earlier 🙂 They can reduce pop now by removing the parts they used till now to remove pop and advertise improved reduced pop performance by returning to standard TI datasheet schematic 😀

And hopefully Sure will get the speaker polarity labeled correctly when they release a finished amp. If I were looking for a finished TPA 3116 amp right now I would go with the SMSL SA60. It seems to be pretty well regarded on this forum.

Well, the standard TI circuit is not optimal pop-free with caps >=470nF when having open inputs and fully cranked up pot (10k). Having the pot set down to minimum, it's works well up to 1uF, especially with self-shorting input connectors or low-resistance output coming from the pre-stage. Having a bigger/longer mute-delay is mainly (to me) a nice to have protection. (470nF at 30k input impedance giving a ~12Hz lower cutoff, frequency which is well below the normal use case. Why should we have 1.6Hz cutoff for a reason? Doesn't makes sense to me.)

Input voltage/resistance and pre-amp Question

I'm a Long-time lurker, first-time poster, and thanks to what I've learned from the smart folks on this forum, I have built several TPA3116D2 projects using various boards and some small mods.

I want to incorporate a Bluetooth receiver into my next boom box project, but the board I have only outputs 600mV at 1K impedance. The amplifier board I'm using is set for 36dB gain. Could I use a preamp like this NE5532 based pre-amp?NE5532 Op Amp HiFi Preamplifier Signal Amplification Board for Bluetooth Pre Amp | eBay

Despite the fact this is a Boom Box and uses Bluetooth, I still want to maintain the highest possible fidelity. Folks have been amazed at the power and clarity I've been getting from these TPA3116D2-based boom boxes.

Also, forgive my ignorance, but how can I determine the output voltage/impedance of a particular Opamp for a given input based on the opamp specs?

Thanks in advance.

-3dB at 12hz, where is -0.5dB then, probably a little high for home audio? my inroom respons is roughly from 30hz, or at least my speakers make a lot of noise pretending to produce generators 35hz and up, not really something below 30hz that I can hear coming from speaker.
