With out an OPS is there any definitive way to test a CFA ips? Maybe a single output pair setup just came to mind. Just for grins.
If you will post the layout I will build and listen to them on a real EF3 as well. 😀
I have no doubt they will sound great. So far, every IPS I have tried has sounded lovely through the Slewmaster OPS even the most recent which was the front end of an APEX AX-11.
To Lazy Cat,
Have you built and listened to ANY of the Slewmaster combinations? I have built and listened to all of them. I would be THE person to ask how they sound. AFAIAC you have earned your title.
If anything , my IPS's will perform better than simulated.
5th elements "wolverine" real world testing proved this.
PS - I actually "cripple" my sim's to assure this is true. (no ideal
current sources/Voltage sources - run the real simulated EF3 @ 4R).

Anybody ever considered that the actual build, grounding, PSU and component selection has a much greater impact on performance than the actual circuit itself..??

I did. That's why I'm not posting any observations until power supply and protection boards are built and put in a chassis. I think a good design will be more immune to chassis layout too. I plan to experiment with that too.
Happy headphones ...
Class A 24V circuit (below).
I use this to test a IPS in isolation @ 5ma VAS I.
ALL present IPS's are 5-10ppm.
Kypton C/V are parts per billion. (in class A).
And yes , power supplies + layout are BIG factors. 😱
Edit , member 5th element did not get his 5ppm UNTIL he moved some wires.

Do you have a layout for that? I would like to build one. I have some Sony MDR-7506 headphones. I wouldn't mind giving those a listen.
......have not laid out an "infant" slewmaster (headphone).
For 24V , all you would need to do is change any zener dropping resistor
to 1K on the IPS's. 24V-80V , these run the same ...
The kypton V/C IPS's are phenomenal in class A ! (below).
24R load -3w output. Cheap EF2 toshiba to-220 output stage .

Terry, I am impressed with your ability to build so quickly, and specially with your listening comparison of different amps, no big words and exaggerations, and you where in the music business if I understood you correctly.
If you are interested in excellent line and headphone amplifier maybe you can take a look this thread http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/solid-state/235695-no-nfb-line-amp-gainwire-mk2-53.html#post4088019 just read trough it and let me know.

Are C10 and C11 standard electrolytics or are they non polar?
Well if they are NON then here is what you are looking at.
New Black Gate Capacitor BG N 6 3V 470uF Nonpolar 4pcs F S | eBay
at 4 for stereo for 80 bucks "free Shipping" 😱
Use for C10, C11 polarized electrolytics, something like 470-1000uF/16V, bigger value is better. No need for nonpolars..Are C10 and C11 standard electrolytics or are they non polar?

Hi Jeff,
I heard through the grapevine that you may be working on a layout for these two IPS. If so, are you going to do a singlesided version that we could etch?
Thanks, Terry

How about a Kypton HEC FET combo

I almost have a Kypton-C layout done but it's double sided. I'm going to send out for etching.

I don't know what HEC is. Can you point me to a schematic?
