I have some questions:

- What is BL drive module for? Is it for using 2 tssa amp modules in bridged configuration? Does it need seperate power supply?
- Does the power output of those modules double into 4R?
- What power will it do in bridged mode? Low impedance (3R at low frequency) stable?
- How about using SMPS? Any listening experience?

BL drive is to bridge Any type of AMP module. It works at up to +/-60vdc. The tssa V1.7 works at up to +/-35vdc . So to get higher power levels we needs to run it balanced or bridged.

The BL drive module Runs from the supply of the AMP . All power leads run to the BL drive module and get distributed to the AMP modules.

I will get exact power measurement In BL drive.

In single ended it is close to doubling the power into 4R.

It will be stable In 2R In bridged but the output power will not be doubled when running In 2R.

Smps will not be a problem. Only most smps is for more than 40v so the smps will be custom configuration .. For example audiopower from italy.

Cheaper smps is rather noisy. But we have an lc filter to the AMP to Solve This issue .

I am owning First One amps already, but got curious for your amp while reading this topic. My speakers are quite "power hungry" and dip to 3 ohms impedance @ approx. 3 Ohms. I will wait for the power figures in bridged mode, but I assume it will work well with my speakers.

In bridge mode, will I need higher supply voltage, or just more current?

Hi all.

To stop any confusion. TSSA V1.7 in BL drive will to around 250Watt into 4R. In 2R the output power will be lower. Though it is perfectly stable into even 2R load.

So if you want to double output power in BL drive using +/-35VDC supply voltage, then you have to choose TSSA V4.

The TSSA V4 will also be able to run at up to +/-45VDC (toroid 2x32VAC).

The TSSA V4 will also have lower output impedance compared to TSSA V1.7.

TSSA V4 will also be delivered on a aluminium profile make it easy to assemble.
 
BL drive V1.1 first measurements.

First we have done some initial measurements.

DC offset with inputs shorted or non shorted:
Positive output: +320uV
Negative output: -199uV

Current consumption: 11mA

Gain measured between positive output and negative output +6dB.

Also look at the FFT measurements. I think they speak for them self.

One thing to be observed. Many designers have to long traces from decoupling capacitor and to V+ and V- on the opamp. This is addressed here ... 2mm at longest distance.

The test build i am going to make now looks like This . This is one channel capable of delivering at least 140watt into 8R.

It is a sk56 100mm heat sink

Hi Sonnya,

If you don't mind, For better heat dissipation (if the heatsink permits it) I would put the output Mosfets facing the right side of the heatsink (if this is the bottom of the heatsink since heat rises), then rotate de BL drive 180 degrees. This would give ~equal length traces to supply voltage and keep the signal not too far.

Does that make sense?

The TSSA V8 is an statement module.

But there will be an TSSA V4, and a TSSA V4 BL.

The TSSA V4. will have the double current capacity and the TSSA V4 BL will incorporate the BL drive module. Both will run on +/-35VDC.

The TSSA V4 BL be able to drive 500Watt into 2R.

Who needs TSSA V4 BL with TSSA V8 being available? Can you please explain the advantages of either setup?

Do those amps share sonic signature, or will they be different?
