TPA3116D2 Amp

I and quite a few others have found the Panasonic SEPF OSCON caps to work very well with the TPA3116. Per the datasheet, the 330uF/25 SEPF OSCON has an ESR of 14 mOhms (100kHz to 300kHz at 20 degrees C).

These are not the panacea for DC decoupling, but my listening experience tells me that they work well with the TI TPA31xx amps, they are easy to obtain, and they are not expensive.

I agree. They sound very good in all of the 3110 /3116 amps that I've installed them in. I find them well worth the cost and easy to work with.

I did the Oscon cap swap on my new 2x15 3110 Sure board that you suggested:cheers: I really like this board, even more now! Thanks....

 I did the exact same thing to my 3110 this morning.

I swapped the psu brick to another one turned down to 21V. And yes the critics were right, bass dissappeared. Guess the next step is to try som Oscons i parallel now. Btw, has anyone else tried the film smds recommended earlier?(which I think sounds great) You need to use 2 in parallel to get 200nF for bootstap. 20x ECHU1H104JB9 Film Capacitor SMD 1913 100nF 50V 5 PX 0394 | eBay
If anyone upgrades to from stock bootstrap to these films + the snubber I think they'll be amazed!

Where does Sure swap (output) + and - for right side channel of chip (TI left ch, Chinese right ch) ?? (SureTPÂ3116)

If I understand your question, the Sure board does not suffer from the channel swapping nomenclature issues of the the red YJ board because they keep the input/output of each side of the board labeled CH1 and CH2.

TI TPA3116= Rch+, Rch-, Lch+, Lch-
Sure3116= +,-,-,+

Where do they swap + and - ???

Sorry, Now I know what you are meaning…. Yes! Thanks! This should have been the very first thing I mentioned about this board.

When I first hooked the 3116 up according to the diagram, it was out of phase…. I switched the phase at one of the speakers and have been hooking the amp up at the board according to the diagram and hadn't thought about it since.

Speakers should be hooked up +,-,+,-
(unless you have a component that reverses absolute polarity, in which case you would hook it up -,+,-,+)

I noticed that too and assumed Sure did some trace crossover with 2 layers and vias. But you are saying labeling on Sure board is incorrect and should be standard +, -, +, - ? I remember someone else getting a Ybdz board a few pages back and complaining SQ sucked and I noticed he had the phase incorrect because assumed it was mirror +,-, -, +. A pretty big silkscreen blunder if you ask me. Not as bad as the left right mess up on the Lepai 2020 when using 3.5mm input.

You think left right mixup is less serious then phase mixup 😀 What do you think sounds worse ? LOL

Yes left right is less serious because it is hard to detect. The bass and all sounds pretty good it is just the imaging is like you are standing on your head. With phase mixup it sounds like cr@p worse than a $2 am radio. The left right mixup was not discovered until like 400,000 views (by me) in the Lepai thread. Nobody noticed it.

If you're a big Allman Brothers Band fan like me, it's easy to tell right versus left: Duane's guitar was always mixed on the left, and Dickie's on the right. 🙂

In a similar way, I discovered it because I knew that the drum kit in Dave Brubeck's album was on the right. Then it was on the left and got me to examine it closely. 🙂

Sweet indeed!. I'm really fighting the temptation to buy any more TPA31xx amps. I previously mentioned that a buddy and I compared his 300B mono block SET amps to my modified YJ TPA3116 blue amp (http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/class-d/237086-tpa3116d2-amp-395.html#post3995147). He liked the YJ amp so much, he purchased it from me, but I told him he would have to get his own power supply, since I wanted to keep my upgraded Astron RS-12A.

Since then, I modded my second YJ blue amp with the TDK X7R ceramic caps for the bootstrap caps, Panasonic SEPF OSCON caps, CoilCraft SER2915L-103KL inductors, and I added four Panasonic FM caps offboard between the power supply and the amp. I have a pair of CineMag CMLI-15/15B line-level input transformers on order with CineMag right now. Once I get those, I will remove the four film input caps and take advantage of the differential inputs. Can't wait.

I came across these Cinemags too, but 150 euro (set) here, bit much for imperfect amp board...

You guys are really confusing me😕
When looking at my 3110 board from the input side is it correct that CH1 is left input, and CH2 is right input? Now, looking at speaker outs, Channel 1 looking from the input side of the board it is labeled - +, and channel 2 is labeled + -. Is this wrong?
