Very clean, handsome and solid looking.First prototypes.
What is the material?
do you have a better photo of the driver w/ horn , it seems like it shows only one half ???
Take a look at post #72 😉
My question is that this does not look to be an AMT1 driver but more like a Beyma AMT TPL150??
I wanna see da ESS Heil AMT1 (please - with sugar on top) 😀

Heil Photos
OK c2cthomas seeing that you asked so nicely here's a photo of the large Heil and the smaller Heil drivers.
I believe this is the driver you are refering to in your statement. It's refered to as the great or large, dipole Heil. It was used on top of the AMT 1a, 1b, rock monitors as well as on a few others. This is the driver ESS selcted when they wanted to use the Heil as a dipole.
This photo depicts just one of a few different variations ESS used of the small Heil driver.
This is obviously another of the many different variations ESS used of the small Heil driver.
I hope this is what you were looking for when you made the statement; "I wanna see da ESS Heil AMT1"

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

You have of course seen the first post on this thread?
My horns sit in the garage.... they might get a 'lil TLC monday.
Promised measurements.
Hi Jack,
Thanks for sharing the measurements with the horn loaded AMT. Relative to the graph posted by the manufactor of the AMT you are using, the horn loading seem to make the driver usefull quite a bit further down in freqency (e.g. falling of around 650 Hz vs. 1000 Hz without the waveguide).
How does it sound in the 700-1000 Hz range?
Thanks!
Best regards
Peter

Thanks guys - buuuuuut I am using a pair of "Great" Heils myself - so I know what they look and sound like.
I should have said that I wanna see the new horn for the AMT1's (please) 😀
Hi Peter,
Can't comment the sound because got samples only for making measurements and sending them now to the AMT manufacturer.
Ok, thanks for responding!
Best regards
Peter
Hi jzagaja
i really like the looks of the waveguide , great work.
can you tell me what the dimensions are ?
do you know if and when it will be available for purchse to use w/ the beyma TPL150 ??

Can't guarantee they will be available but you can try contact Autotech.pl

i thought that i might be able to get them through you ?
who at autotech could tell me if they will be produced ?
info at autotech.pl, Mr. Lukasz Lewandowski. Problem with GAMT90 is they are time consuming so possibly will be cancelled soon. BTW: I don't sell waveguides - only help design them.

A GIANT Heil-type Speaker?
I know this is a little off the topic, but I thought you guys might be interested in seeing this. I found two photos of a pair of 15" drivers and a horn that are all mounted on an OB. Then the person constructed the two sides to make the entire speaker look like it's a GIANT Heil driver! As a picture is worth 1000 words I'll let these two pictures explain what I mean...
If a large, dipole Heil driver was placed on top of this speaker ---{so that it replaced the horn}--- would the wooden sides now act like horn "if" they were postioned so that they extended the actual sides of the Heil driver?

Hawthorne audio has a new AMT w/ horn in development:
seems to be only a front horn playing down to 500hz !!!
i am not sure if the back is open ?

Hi hum4good,
Wow, they look truly great! Having the Beyma TPL-150H, I have been wanting something similar for some time now. Thanks a lot for sharing!
Best regards
Peter

Is there a price yet for these new Hawthorne Audio AMT drivers w/ horn? According to Hawthorne Audio's website the horns are made from man-made marble and won't be cheap! In fact Darrell Hawthorne himself hinted at the expected expense when he said "At 53 I need to keep one eye focused on my own personal retirement. I hope to keep doing this for a long time but one must be realistic and prudent. So, perhaps out of the price range for many but not without benefits for many."
Please don't misunderstand me I'm not suggesting that what Darrell is doing is wrong. Even vintage large, dipole, Heil drivers --{of which I have 3 pairs and I'm looking for a 4th}--- sell for over $300pr and the new large, dipole, Heil drivers are selling for $700pr! I'm just saying don't be surprised by a price that's higher than many want to pay for a pair of drivers. That said, "if" they are a sonic improvement over the original, vintage Heils and really go down to 500Hz ---{Heil claimed their large Heils went down to 800Hz, but Dr Von Schweikert, who worked directly with Dr Heil, informed me in an email that the large Heils MUST be crossed over at 1.2KHz @ a 24dB slope or else it goes into distortion}--- they'll be worth some serious bucks indeed!

Years ago at WCES
Quite some time ago at WCES there was a company using Heil drivers coupled to horns made of "Marblelite" which looked quite like this. The material was the same as or very close to what is/was used for integrated vanity top/sink units. There's a company in Michigan here that has been doing these kind of sinks for years. Nice surface, durable, non-resonant, fairly easily cast I think. The company was an off-shoot of Cerwin-Vega if I remember. The demo was 8 (yes 8) of these two-way beauties arranged in an arc of maybe 30-45 degrees. Source material was an 8 track open reel tape of the Maynard Ferguson band. Very impressive wall of sound with spot on imaging and effortless reproduction.
