The diyAudio First Watt M2x

to EUVL

Hello Patrick,

both boards/daughtercards are working. But I have not tested them in the amp yet.

I am fiddling around with some little issues of my PC- scope. Could become a long night. I also tested the boards with sinus-; squarewave- and triangle-signals.

What I have measured so far - there seems to be no ringing. But I don't really trust my scope and my measurements at the moment.

The THD+N seems also to be very low. Below 0.0x.

M2X - BlackForestBuffer

I have made some tests with the M2X-Black-Forest-Buffer:

DCoffset has settled in to around 3mV.

Temperatures are at around 40°-43°C at the TTA004s (Q3/Q4)

TTA004 (Qs1) is at around 30°C.

The Jfets are difficult to measure , but are at around 35°-40°C

Hello Ake,

I have built and listened to many M2X-daughtercards till now.
The only statement I can surely make: they all sound really good!
There is no 'bad' daughterboard. They have different characters.

Some are a little bit better. But that strongly depends on your listening taste.
And the rest of your setup.

Sorry, I can't say - this is the best!? Or: you must built that!
Built them and make your own experience - it is a nice hobby...:D

My IPS6 curse has been lifted.

Third time was the charm! After installing J113 backwards on the first 2 builds (silly me trusted the data sheets), I completed my third attempt at IPS6 this morning, and currently listening, and they sound good.

Thanks for all your help Mark Johnson!

At least now, I took the Cedarburgs out, and can clean them finally.

Next project:
I got a couple of other Analog Device op amps - AD744BQ and AD8475Q, and hope to compare between these, on the IPS7, and the AD797 on the Cedarburg (IPS8)

Also, I got a Meanwell 24v power supply, and hope to figure a way to test/set daughter cards for trimming, or biasing. I plan to insert some stand offs on a piece of wood (carefully marking the +/-/in/out) to be able to simply bolt in the card being tested, and flip on the PSU. This would allow me to do some of the functions without having to measure, and set inside the M2x case. I welcome suggestions and criticisms.

looking forward to hearing your impressions on the opamps!

You'll discover that there are tens of thousands of J112's on the shelf, ready to ship out, in surface mount packages. The website findchips.com tells you the magic prefix that goes before "J112" to indicate you want the SMD part. Then mount it on an adapter PCB or else just bodge some wirewrap wire leads.

You'll also discover there are TO-92 (thru hole J112) parts on the shelf at other US distributors, image below.
