TPA3221

Hello,
Some threads and mulitple users mentionned the high sound quality of the TPA3221 (Texas instrument).
Main advantages over TPA3251 or TPA3255 are :
- build in or external LDO
- differential or single ended input (no need for an opamp !)

I have seen this one : Nosound Super Mini HiFi TPA3221| AliExpress
There is no on/off switch which may be a problem... is it click and pop free ?

low input impedance> little bass> noise
Your board's inputs may have been configured for high gain, and low input impedance. Refer TPA3221 datasheet, page 23.
The upper limit of input gain is 34 dB, and at this setting the input impedance is just 7.7 kohm. But if you set the gain to the minimum of 18 dB, the input impedance is then 48 kohm.
Input gain is set by the values of R1 and R2, see page 19.

I suspect that there is no external pre-amplifier
Yes, hooray! That let's us choose our own pre-amplification choice, or no preamp if the output stage of our DAC has suitable gain and output impedance.

I assume that the maximum gain is set, with consequences for the quality
Yes, but it's been the same situation with TPA3116/3118 amp boards for several years now - the popular Sanwu TPA3118 board is configured with a high gain of 32 dB, and to get best quality from this board you should modify it to reduce the gain to 20 dB.

hello guys. I just received the amp. Really good. Components looks to be original.

Gain is only 24db. Because the input is directly connected to the QC3008 the max volume is not very high.

When no music is played the amp is silent dead no noise or others. Bluetooth connection is APT-X.

Intrigued by the less flattering statements about the TPA3221, I bought this well-priced board: TPA3221 Module de carte amplificateur de puissance numerique classe D 100W + 100W amplificateur haute puissance | AliExpress . No BlueTooth.
I only gave it a very brief test with 19Vdc supply and mediocre speakers. It worked, I noticed no hum or hiss. A good "click" at start-up.

Visual inspection did not reveal anything upsetting. One 8-pin SOT-package IC had its identification marking removed. My first impression is that it is not a double OP-AMP but rather something relating to start-up.
It could be a good choice in-between TPA3116 and TPA325x, and with a seemingly correct price-tag. A competitor to TDA7498E and TDA8954TH. I will perform more thorough tests later and probably draw up the schematics.

I worked on smaller class D ICs for our television manufacturing customers. They demanded inaudible start/stop (or a big discount!). I suspected they would rather have the discount, but we gave them inaudible start/stop.

For the home hi-fi and guitar amp market, a tiny click is probably considered OK. I miss amplifiers having a small tick or thump at startup to let me know they are on. I left TI back in 2012, so I did not work on any of the current chips.
