re"the horn is mid the 3.5 are tweets." - so change the labels;
'why 3 wires not 2?' - looks like two stripy wires to me (post 31 RH pic), but I could be going blind.....;-)

re 3 wires i have encountered this in other Zenith consoles some are indeed "bi-amped" others are merely parallel high passed through a capacitor but the wiring color scheme is consistently dark brown (- or ground) and beige/tan = low and drk brw and yellow = high.
That sounds great! Again, I'm a layman. No dilemma, just want to do it.
How do I make it be a regular speaker? I can place the 4 speakers in a box but the wiring....
Usually, my suggestion is to
1) mount the speakers frontally, so no hollow tube/cavity effect happens
(the back mount is for the grills to stay flat on the baffle, right ??! )
2) replace the double tweeter/w/horn with proper drivers, and mount them vertical, on axys ( with the woofer )
MAke two boxes ? easy
make two sounding boxes ?
but that's experimenting...
Correct Turk. Just trying to transport to new enclosures!
so the thing we need to sort out is whether or not the high section was being driven by a separate amp or whether it was parallel high passed (and what frequency the x-over is) tracing the wiring back should help to find the components where looking to transplant.
Ok, i will trace the wiring back and take pics.
Pico, I'd like to keep all the original speakers. Why replace the horn/tweeters?

Looking at the pics, I don't think it's that hard - there is only one pair of wires going to the amp, & there is a single cap poking out at the RH side of the horn... i.e simplest xover possible...
so, make your boxes, (~same size as existing cavity & with open back), transfer the speakers with the same wiring, & connect the lower pair of wires coming off the woofer to the speaker terminals you want to use... voila...
Should I cut the wire that leaves the woofer to the extension speak connection? Do I need to disconnect the wires from the tuner/amp?
Keep the back of the new boxes open?
ok great! so the lower pair of wires coming from the woofers can be cut and fed into a speaker terminal?
