Zapco C2K 9.0XD

Well, No luck!

I've emailed Zapco Twice and of course no response. I have tried to call every number I can find related to Zapco and they all are disconnected.

I have gone on every Facebook page I could find that had any mention of Zapco in their description and requested help locating a schematic and I have had no response.

There has to be a schematic out there somewhere, but it seems that I have little to no chance of finding it.

Is there anything else that can be tried without the schematic?

PM ME I couldn't send you a message

Does anybody know, definitively, what is under the 3 black epoxy blobs?

This is a TA104A Tripath chip.

Well technically I meant to write more so resolute audio made this which from my understanding they bought the inventory out from tripath after they went bankrupt or they made their own I forget which but they can’t be that much different in design possibly some slight changes since the ta0105a tda2500 doubled the voltage allowance and they are able to emulate the ta0104a and ta0103a so they should be very precise similarities

I think I am going to have admit defeat on this one. Unless I come across a working tripath chip one of these days.

I can ground the H-Mute pin 35 of the TA0104A and get the amp out of protect and producing +/- rail voltage and also follow a signal from the RCAs to the inputs of the TA0104A module but get nothing out of the tripath module. So, I am assuming it is one or more of the ICs on the module that are bad.

Thank you Perry and trunks9_us for all of your help.

What part of Texas are you in ? I’ll drive to you and we can test out one of my tripath I have multiple 9.0s some spares tripath as as well that I won’t sell but on eBay there is a guy In Oregon that sells legit ta0104a chips at least we can determine if that’s what you really need.

I appreciate it, but the owner of the amp doesn't want to mess with it. He called Zapco years ago and after explaining to them what the amplifier was doing, they told him they wouldn't even look at it and that they couldn't repair it. Also not knowing what caused the damage to the TA0104A that's in it, I wouldn't want to put someone else's in it, seeing as that one could become damaged also.

He just pulled it out of storage because I asked him to give me some broken amps to play with. I just do this as a hobby because I'm interested in electronics.

I already put it back together and gave it back to him.

I got this amp back for another try at it.

I've got the left channel working properly, at least for now.

The right channel will work some of the time but will randomly send DC to the right speaker terminal, which results in a loud pop through the speaker and then that channel is muted on the tripath chip. I can cycle the input power and sometimes the right channel will work again and sometimes not. I have pushed all over all the boards and components with a non-conduvtive probe and also twisted and moved inductors with no luck of reproducing it.

Also I don't think I have the power supply just right. When I first got the amp last year it had +/- 70V rails. Now the maximum rail voltage is +/- 60V.
This amp has a pot to adjust the rails, depending on if the TA0103A or TA0104A chip is used. Both measurements taken with a 13.6 V B+.

I slipped early on when messing with the power supply and damaged a few parts that have been replaced but I must not have found everything.
