XSD Speaker Crossover and Waveguide GB

Just read the part about it being a commercial crossover, so I understand it must be purchased from you, which is fine. Any info on the mid and the woofers? Or is that to be a later group buy? I'm assuming this leads to a finished speaker?

Found the drivers, and total cost is quite reasonable, less that the "monkey Coffin" build I have also contemplated, which also looks fantastic. This speaker is a much better match for type and size for my uses. Also, the "Box" will be simpler as well.

This speaker sounds like it will be amazing. Advanced woofer alignment, Open Baffle, several things I have meant to try. Now to swing a group buy. Maybe this one will be open long enough. Approximately 500 worth of drivers, not bad at all considering there are 20 of them total.

The Xo schematic is provided with the kit only. Cost of woofers about $194 for 16, $230 for pair of PRV mids, $80 for pair of planar tweeters. The cabinet is about $200 in BB plywood and MDF is my guess (costs have gone up). Front and base is 3/4in BB. Sides are 1/2in BB. Woofer manifold is 3/4in MDF stacked 5 layers. XO kit we are starting list for 2nd GB if you are interested. Waveguides are $68/pair. That’s $275. Total project looks like it is about $807 in parts not including wood. Taxes and shipping extra.

Looks like Parts Express has all the drivers. Guess it makes more sense to wait on them (this GB is going to take a little time, shipping and so forth) and get the crossover and wave guides first. Yes, put me on the upcoming group buy for a set of cross overs and the wave guides please. Big cap option if still available.

Thanks

XRK971,
In some of your renderings showing proposed finishes on the "XSD" speaker, you commented that a "piano" finish would be attractive. I just found such a reference for the DIYA crowd under the Design & Build tab / Construction Tips subtab. Here is the essence of that post: "A decent paint finish is possible by hobbyists. Multiple coats of Zinsser Bin sprayed outdoors, sanding between coats. Apply enough coats until the primer is ultra smooth.. Apply General finishes enduro black poly or tinted Sherwin Williams pro classic.. Oh, tint the Zinsser bin with transtint dye to be close to the finish colour.. Practice the entire regime a small project."

XRK,
Early on, in this thread, when the planar speakers were NLA, you suggested you might look into alternate sourcing for them. Is that a dropped idea? I haven't seen any further discussion. I am somewhat worried about their possible uneven quality. I realize recent posts show availability at Parts Express without the unit to unit consistency being addressed.
Please comment.

I have asked the OEM vendor for more quality control measures like an impedance sweep prior to shipment. I won’t be able to provide any until I make a production run of the commercial XSD. I would suggest you buy from PE and if it has issues, send back for exchange. PE is pretty good about that. It might be several more months before I am able to offer them as part of a GB as it’s linked to the commercial speaker.
