why are old school amps worth so much?

I see thanks for the info. Did manage to snag another blaupunkt 260 for $20. I could run six 10s with all three just for show but why bother. On the other hand they are pretty light and somewhat compact.

Yeah the cadence I have is a mess, lots of daughter boards with poor connections. I fixed it up with a pile of new solder and it still does not run, not got back to it. I think it is early Korean.

I have some made in USA MTX think a RT2400x that is rated at some large power like 750rms@14v bridged. It does not look like a PPI though. I never got into old MTX never saw many around here for some reason, though this one must be around 2000 year its not really that old.

Also see that huge Sansui 2x300 PPI is on there yet again. Pretty slow season for amps this year, not seen hardly any of some brands and a couple odd ones I have been sniffing around for a little. Or I see one at some huge price.

Good show on the BPA260 for $20.

That's a later model PA7050. I can't find the ADS P100...

Nice MTX 225. Appears to be in good shape, too. I don't remember the early Terminators (high current line) in white? Blue Thunder products were blue and Terminator products were red when first introduced.

Plate 280357691411 kind of rough looking. Have too many broken old amps here to play with now so not sure I want to bother. I would have to look up the thread here to recall the difference in the gray and black (like this plate). IIRC the black ones are STK IC amps, I know the 80w one I have is.

I think the BPA260 is nicer than the two I have.:cannotbe: Must be not that many people looking for obscure stuff right now....of course every time I look I don't see much. I'd actually mount up six tens IB and run all three, but not sure it would get low enough maybe I'll model it and see. I had planned on going 15s next in an effort to save room. I like my 30Hz you know, lol, but 10s always sounded nice.

Anyone remember these? I sold Petras (they were about 20-minutes away) . Never saw this before. I have a new set of Petras home speakers too.

Only seen it on ebay once before.

From the diagram and lettering, I'd venture it's:
-a bit of a parametric bass EQ+shelving filter, and
-a center channel summming block, and
-an "ambience" (image) processor*, and
-a crossover, and
-a line driver
all in one neat package.

*If it operates on out-of-phase crosstalk like I suspect, the ambience/image works surprisingly well with some recordings -giving them a larger, live sound. Many recordings do not agree, and I doubt a huffy audiophile would either.

IMHO, Petras was a little ahead of their time and behind in their marketing. They should have grown much bigger. I'd love to have a few of their old DVC10's.

I hooked up the Petras and it sounded like an old Epicenter. Giving out the "false" bass that went really low. Didn't really mess with the other controls yet. But will soon. Impressive piece. Wouldn't mind having a few of these. One for the collection and a few for the cars.

Petras was good stuff. I collect them too. Mainly the smaller things. Small subs, mids, ect. The home speakers I have are small. Don't remember them making any other size home speakers.

They were about 20minutes away and would sell to anyone with a Tax ID, so I was there frequently buying subs. They had a really good warranty too. Blow it, exchange it. No shipping charge since you could walk right in and swap them. In the early 90's, that was pretty much all that was around in the Dallas area. They were located in Arlington (1313 Knight St., still remember the address) ... We had the RF subs too, but Petras was a lot cheaper and had the same sound. My friend Joel (Wayne Harris's cousin) had 8 of them in his Hearse. I had 8 in my truck. Both were stolen within 3 weeks of each other by the same thieves. My favorite old school sub next to the M&M's and RF Pro-series. Sure would like a NOS set of the 15's. Or maybe some of the 18's. Anyone have any???

That box looks something like the PI 14 "Pseudoacoustic Infector" from Rane, but realer.

This weekend I spotted some (rare?) Canadian-made amps at a swap meet stall. Unfortunately, the seller had packed up before I could get back for another look. They were small, clear anodized aluminum finish (mostly), and dated from the early/mid '90s. I should have taken a picture, and bought the Audiocontrol equalizer...

PA P704 by Zed. Is epay getting really slow or is it just the prices causing 0 bid on most things?

eBay has JACKED with there process so much people are leaving in droves! there new points rating system, the BS shipping charge limits. there prices and the whole thing has just gone way overboard. and the market is so bad right now that things that should sell instantly sit around for weeks. my typical price markers show prices down by at least 1/4 to 1/3. its really bad right now.

I loved it back when the little guy could post those cool 99 cent items. like the 3" reel to reel tapes and stuff. made it fun. now days the prices are so high that you can't do that anymore! and the economy is so bad that unless you just really really want something.....

I don't see prices down that much on many things, just volume is down....in amps anyway. Yeah I can't agree with the stuff ebay is doing, they will pay if it don't work.

Alphasonic bass amp, anyone see this old thing? 230353669626 going in 1.5 hr.

The 60W Autosub? Yeah, it's a neat old piece. That was quick and easy way to power a sub with minimal hassle. Virtually no amplifiers had built-in crossovers back then (~1983), so it was a one-piece solution like the old EQ/boosters. Crossover frequency is fixed, with a single-knob bass EQ.

I had a buddy with the bigger one (AS-2001) on a CV 12, along with an A-255 on a pair of Pioneer TS-2000 8" coaxials in a '78 Z-28. It sounded great for the time.

I'd pay $5 for it for the nostalgia...

One bid, someone paid 22 shipped for it. Some of that old stuff has limited usefulness. I still have a stack of power booster EQs here someplace. The clarions worked nice back then, I should get out that one I got in a box of stuff and see if it works...power test it, lol, see if those transformers can make some noise. Crossover sure was key, I realized what SQ was when I got my Nak crossover. Wow what a difference. It made any system sound better back then it was so clean. I got hold of a newer mtx 4ch and the crossovers go up to 4Khz on that, can even bandpass...hard to play with if you mount it in the trunk however.

Why is this amp worth so much? Is it the holy grail of sony amps or something, lol? Only 500 watts rms and class a/b. Yesterday it was at $50 with no bids and I actually thought about bidding. Woke up this morning and it was 75 I believe. Now its at $255 and still several days to go, wow. I'm willing to bet it will go for more than high quality US made amps with more power. It will probably be more expensive than a 600watt PPI or Phoenix Gold.
