Re: ebay 2SK182
Intriguing, but the power supply and heat management needed to take full advantage of the power capability of the 2SK182
is too much for me. 🙄
I am happy with 50W using THF-51S. 🙂

ZM always swoops in to my rescue with the answers to my questions.@sp33ls
explained in details in context of Singing Bush
in Sissy SIT , I didn't investigate that much, but differences should be diminished due to (sort of) follower function/arrangement
I'm not worthy. 🙂
Comparison of curves for two Token THF-51S..... Which one is most desirable and why?

+ 1 year after this thread startSome of you may recall years ago when there was inventory of the Sony
VFETs still to be had in Singapore. After purchasing some (soon to
appear here on diyAudio as the last of the DIY Sony VFET amp kits)
I posted a note advising people to buy some while they still could.
Those people are probably happy they did.
Now it looks to me like the inventory of Tokin VFETs (2SK180, 2SK182 and
THF51S) will follow the same path. The stock is limited and they aren't
making any more, the Fukushima event having taken Tokin out.
I am contemplating a couple of projects using them, and I advise anyone
who wants to play to acquire them while you still can. All three part
types are usable and most applications would not require matching.
On Ebay watanabletomoaki and pras1170 are known reliable sources.
At this time tomoaki has the lower price at $60 each.

I have such curves, definitely less well matched: there is between 1 dB and 1.5 dB difference between channels. I do not hear it in practice in the room! But a slight attenuator helps.Comparison of curves for two Token THF-51S..... Which one is most desirable and why?
And with actual the street price of triode, an even better deal ! My matched pair wait for the right M.Pass project to be published.+ 1 year after this thread startBump ! https://www.ebay.com/sch/watanabetomoaki/m.html?item=232192023307&hash=item360fb91b0b:g:Y8MAAOSwnbZYDFkx&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562
👆 Now that’s some exciting news to wake up to….
Time to order some FE pcbs, I’m thinking Nimitz, Hornet, and Bon Homme Richard. Any reason not to order some PSFILT and TUBA boards at the same time?

Not sure how it may play with PSFILT and TUBA, but the Token version may have a higher voltage power supply?👆 Now that’s some exciting news to wake up to….

Great point, Tokins should want to see more voltage swing. I suspect for the sack of interchangeability he will figure out a local solution on the Tokin specific output boards. In concept I’m think of something like what Mark did on the Marauder and Dreadnaught FE boards with his BOOSTED circuit.
Nelson has also promised a new front end (https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/diy-sony-vfets-pt-3-got-vfets.381181/post-6976211). Given what other members have done with Token devices, I’m excited to see what solutions he has for us.

Mr Pass, are you able to reveal which Tokins we will need and how many - (I’m assuming 2) ?And it is on track for delivery soon.

Not sure if this has already been shared around, but I bought this copy of an advert from eBay awhile back. Since I completed my first [Pass-inspired, Tokin] SIT build tonight, I figured I'd share for fun.
I have to say, it definitely seems like ZM's SissySIT plays up the tube-like nature mentioned here. Tho, I smirked when I read their claim that output transformers are a thing of the past (still, mostly true). It's a shame that those vintage designs hadn't really leaned into what the marketing was claiming here.
Excited to see what Pa has cookin', tho I may be satiated with this SissySIT 😉

It does prompt the question (at least in my mind), why has the species become extinct? Was it cost that stopped them becoming the apex predator ?
