While they last...

As far as those bargain THF51s being fake - and the quantities alone would make one wonder - is anyone aware of other devices using that same case? My assumption is that this would be a difficult one to fake. Admittedly my knowledge of electronic exotica is nil.

Any idea of what that most expensive offering is - T0034? Any idea of what is different about that variant?

Those with devices who want to hear what they can do: ZM's SINGING BUSH is a very fine amplifier.

I would welcome something better but at the moment they have me in a blissful state and I cannot imagine anything being much better.

But much better would be welcomed. All things are possible when it comes to Mr,. Pass. (And then for ZM to finagle a little more in the design)

This is all great fun. We are lucky that our choice of entertainment involves one of the great entertainers of all time ...

I do not doubt that would be true for most.

In my case - no crossover and horn loading make the low damping factor amp superior - and my amps, each, are driving half of the frequency range does make my case unusual.

I should have mentioned that in my post.

I have no experience with back loaded horns but front loaded horns sound better with minimal damping from the amplifier.

I did not mean that to sound like I had compared SISSY and SB which you know very well have have not.

But I do know the difference between J2 on compression drivers and the MEH horn and it is decisive in my case. One would assume that the higher damping factor would always be better with woofers yet SB has the woofers in control without strangling them with unneeded damping, that is my conception of what is happening. Akin to finding a horn loudspeaker when using a conventional amplifier will usually sound better with resistance in between the amplifier and the speaker

Joining the VFET Party

Hi all - I’m crashing this party!

I just plunked down some coin on the matched quad THF51s Watanabe had for sale on eBay. It’s hard to justify the rapidly increasing cost of this rapidly dwindling resource, but this is entertainment, right?

Which way to the wine bar? 😀

The THF-51S is like an 845 in the solid state world, good for 50W output, but without the 1000V power supply. Definitely a good thing. 😀

My order from pras a few months ago never arrived for me... Thinking it's likely lost at this point. 🙁

Fortunately, I have a couple 182's for a Sissy build. I wonder if anyone has compared the two in the same circuit to see if there's any noticeably audible differences.

The big DHT like 211 and 845 in SE topology give output power max ~ 20Watts in class A ,
semiconductor Tokin triodes can produce more than twice :cheerful:
PRECISELY MATCHED QUAD (4PCS) de THF-51S (avec Curve Tracer des donnees) TOKIN Sit FET | eBay

Still cheaper than most 300B tubes. 🙂

Yes a lot cheaper, a matched pair of 300B made in USA from Western Electric cost ~ 1499 $
Quad cost 3099 $ :yikes: Ok this ones are luxury 😀 not made in PRC copies

My 50 Watts per channel of single ended common drain mu follower THF-51S mono-blocks are sounding great and keeping my room warm. Great for cold Canadian winters.
