Or was that to keep the Britons in? 😉
Funnily enough, Bonsai, when Hadrian’s Wall was first built many of its forts actually faced south!
The wall was built not only to protect the Romans from the Caledonian Picts, but also from the great local tribe called the Brigantes whose territory lay on both sides of the wall.
P.S. It should be noted that the English and the Scots did not settle in Britain until three centuries after Hadrian’s Wall was built. England or Scotland simply did not exist in Roman times!
Where in the world is this and where was I standing to take the photo?
Reminds me of the Spanish Costa Bravo, but probably wrong.
Jan
Wrong by about half a world Jan. Funny, it's a very famous landmark.
Cal, is that in the city where you live?
EDIT: I know. It's "English".

Correct Cal. Diamond head in Waikiki. Photo taken from another famous landmark right behind my house.
Ha, no. The palace is at sea level. FWIW, Iolani palace was the first royal palace in the world to have electric light. 1886.
Was I right about the English part?

That looks like one of those bridges over the Snoqualmie River. I went to a motorcycle rally up there.Well known locally
But hard to say, as I saw the bridges from the top side. 🙂
Well known locally, and with a fair amount of attraction for tourists.
The new Tacoma Narrows bridge?
where was I when I took this picture
bonus points for naming the mountain (name reflects the shape of the peak)
I am guessing the initials for the mountain are HT and I have no idea where you were when you took it. I wish you had turned around and taken a picture of the sign nearby that would have told us. 🙂
No idea Bonsai. I like the pictures of places I might have been to. That isn't one of them and it's doesn't seem to have been on the Discovery channel when I was watching. I'm gonna cheat and do a google search.
EDIT: Darn it, no such luck
