We had few doctor choices on our medical insurance plan. Our doctor was a Jamaican educated at the British West Indies Medical Institute. Not a bad guy 25 years ago, but in the last few years I was in Florida he had convinced my wife that I was about to drop dead of a heart attack, and the cardiologist I was referred to had been deported back to Pakistan. I was taking 7 different prescription meds at a total out of pocket cost of nearly $3K per year. No job, no pills, no problem....so far. I have only turned blue once so far....about normal. I have failed 2 stress tests and turn blue occasionally. None of the medical experts I saw seems to why, but they are all willing to perform very expensive tests including a $22K cardiac catheterization .

What grinds my gears??? Not really trying to denigrate our "adopted" country...but here in Argentina it really is "different" & rather frustrating. Somewhere in Mid-June we had a "contractor" build us a car-port.....all fine & good, somewhat on time & seemingly well built (Still have to paint over the welds on the galvanized steel beams lest they rust-out). The guy, who fancies himself a fabricator, said he would build us a "salamandra", or a woodstove.....cool, we had a 5 Ft. high Natural gas tank (Well built via strict regulations) as a "foundation" to build with.....weeks go by as our "new room" freezes & is "uninhabitable from no heat......well, it is still "not done" & Summer is approaching. Our "new car-port" sprung a leak from the rain, the power line still wasn't re-routed for the lighting in the car-port....I have a makeshift routing for the lights as I shouldn't have to risk wrecking the roof from walking atop the thing...& not knowing just where I am 'suppose" to step. The new back-room has a space opened up for the MIA woodstove......still an empty spot.

Case in point, there was a bad windstorm the other day...a 30 Ft "telephone pole"..(Eight inch diameter plain un-treated wood pole).....It was fully grown over with a vining plant, the roots were some four inches in diameter, all the way up, fully obscured, couldn't even see the "Pole". As it stands it was blown over...taking power lines & comm. lines with it. The power company reset the lines, guy wires & all were snapped, adjacent poles pulled at weird angles. It's been three days now, the coax cables are still at eye level, the poles still aren't straight, guy wires for the coax spiraled along here & there.......My guess is the guys said "Good enough"...........the rest of the job I'd guess is a Month or more off in the future.

To replace the rather dull and boring green/red/black/orange wires which I normally see inside all of my projects. Also a soft spot for 1910-1950s electronics. I don't know about you but I think the "Racecourse" R-Core transformers look rather steampunkish/1800s.
Secretly.. When the equipment is turned off I like to run my fingers along the wires. Cotton covered wire can add to that experience.
What would REALLY grease my gears is brass terminations on each end of the cotton tubes. Ohh yeahhh. Just like how you see heatshrink terminations on the end of computer power supply cables. Except with brass or copper.

This is for a TDA1541/TDA1543 Dual dac so its a vintage design anyway. a classic which I want to make look good AND sound good.
The difficult part is finding the cotton covering which goes over wire WITHOUT buying the actual wire inside, otherwise I have to buy the twisted stuff which is used for vintage fans and lamps.
I also like the fact that I can use a rigid copper strand and just put a bit of copper tubing over it and consider the wiring done. I don't want to do this for high voltage circuits just for low voltage stuff like you would find inside of a DAC. They did used to do this in tube amps though, they used to use a rigid wire to join two points inside of an amp and then just covered over it with cotton tube.
The search continues... I may have to just buy some lamp cord anyway and pull the good double insulated cable out of it but don't want to if I don't have to.

Contracting stateside can be a problem, but the web pumps out a lot of good information on whom to avoid. Perhaps they need "Angie's List" down Argentine Way. (To put on a little addition to our house took 18 months.) I would have thought that currency would have been a bigger issue.
I think that contractors lead a feast-to-famine existence so they book a lot more than they can handle.
