To this day, I don't understand why people associate Key West with gay people.

Back in the early 80's Key West had the second largest gay population (percentage wise) in the US after San Fransisco. This fact was mentioned in travel brochures for a gay audience. This was before being gay was socially acceptable to most Americans, so it was "in the closet". I haven't been there in maybe 20 years, so I don't know what it's like now.

There is an event every year called Fantasy Fest that takes place around Halloween. Wild debauchery in the streets, and the really crazy sh!^ takes place after dark. I went there the year Key West elected it's first openly gay mayor (maybe 1982), with a group of mixed gay an hetero couples, and stayed in a gay hotel, and visited some gay clubs. The closet doors were officially opened. What used to happen inside, came out into the streets. I saw things that I didn't know humans could or would do, and I would not visit the hotel pool or hot tub!

Everyone dresses up in some kind of costume. The girl I went with was big bird on roller blades, and I was a Jedi Master complete with a fluorescent tube powered light saber and flashing LED's all over my costume.

Google "Fantasy Fest pictures" for some mild examples, but be warned......not for young children....unless you are prepared to answer some unusual questions.

I had a film camera with me and a rather powerful flash. I took some random pictures of stuff going on in the streets after dark, and I didn't realize until I started printing some of the pictures (I had my own darkroom) that several people were wearing only paint, cellophane, or electrical tape......still have the negatives in a box somewhere.

This implies that there is an ultimate perception of reality that is true.
Maybe I should have been more explicit. There is a reality that is true.
Arguably perception is the only reality, at least as far as human beings are concerned.
This human being isn't concerned with that argument. Not because I can know all there is to know about the nature of reality, but because I see the alternative as literally, "There's no possible way of knowing, so what's the point in speculating?"
we all agree that a red thing is a red thing
An object that emits/reflects light with a wavelength of approximately 650 nm?
I'm not trying to defend stereotypes
Nor I. I've posted a couple of times here with an unstated purpose of attempting to steer away from them. This post is mostly just the result of a certain responsibility I possess to add a bit of clarity. Hopefully with some success.

Absolutely. The Danube in Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven and Schubert's day was so polluted with human effluent that more than 10% of the population died every year of water borne illnesses. To this day you can go into a restaurant in Vienna and find people drinking beer at 6 AM. Ever listen to Bach's "Coffee" Cantata? Tobacco and caffeine were drugs of choice back in the day, because everyone lived on wine/beer. This is true. In Europe, the tradition was to drink alcohol rather than water. Water was considered to carry plague, for that matter, and people avoided bathing, which is why Eau de Cologne was developed to cover the stench.

In the mid 19th century London alone released 75 million imperial gallons (90 million US) of raw sewage into the Thames twice a day.
There was a ferry disaster in which most people died not from drowning but from swallowing river 'water'.

I forgot about Dead can Dance, first album of theirs I heard was " The Serpents Egg" it was unlike anything I'd heard before. My attention was drawn to them by an interview with German electronic musician, Klause Schultz ( not 100% sure about the spelling ) he stated they were one of his biggest influences, as I was a big Schultz fan at the time I felt I really needed to check them out. I wasn't dissapointed.

As for Schultz's stuff, that was staple listening amongst my friends and I, when we were smoking weed, along with pink Floyd, tangerine dream, the doors, oh and Hawkwind too, particularly warrior on the edge of time.

Surely this "speculation" is one of the greatest of human endeavors and bloody good fun to do when your stoned!

I agree it's a very difficult thing to try and explain, particularly to anyone who hasn't experienced it themselves. These drug experiences definitely open doorways. I think of it a bit like a circuit analogy, that these alternate states of consciousness open new pathways in the brain, some that I suspect are not opened much or even never by people who have never experienced this type of thing. These allow different cognitive processes to occur ( the brain is like an analog computer, the most complex and amazing one ever conceived, perhaps, unless you believe there are beings in the universe with even higher intelligences than us, but that's another mad conversation in itself. ) these newly opened brain pathways allow us to think about and perceive things in an entirely new way and once this facility has been created, we are never quite the same again, whether this is a good or a bad thing depends very much on your point of view ( ...as Ben Kenobie in Star Wars said, "Many of the truths we cling to, depend very much on our point of view")

For anyone who doubt's my ability to assume the mindset of a stoned person without smoking anything, read the last paragraph again, I wrote it sober as a judge!

Yes, Circuit analogy/idea is great example. Get into even more Societal involvement, standards/dictation's, assumed correct behavior's/Action's etc. I don't know..I just know/feels like a lot weird/bad stuff going on. Whats up with all this Racial Garbage and excessive Violence everywhere now, or Gender/Sexuality stuff, None of my Concern or right to with assumption of what's even Normal anymore. But it's like being forced upon others and has to be accepted/societal movement's...I don't know and doesn't make any sense to me and it Bother's me.

I thought this forum was about how to learn about my Marantz's not how to get high on some stupid drug. If this forum is about how it feels to smoke and get high, there are other forums that will meet my requirements....

But wait - it's a floor wax and a dessert topping!

This topic is but one of hundreds (thousands?) in this forum. Have you tried simply starting a new thread about your Marantz gear? I'm sure you'll get plenty of responses; folks here are quite knowledgeable on a variety of topics.

EDIT: By the way, it's "Marantzes," not "Marantz's." (Sorry, just couldn't resist the irony.) 🙂

It's not like the thread was camouflaged in some way. It's kind of like how I feel about threads about the relative sound of different wire. If you don't want to discuss the topic, stay out of the thread. 🙂 ps, I would love to discuss the sound of wire, but the threads are always hijacked by hecklers and bs.

The Lounge is for OT discussion. Which this certainly is. The only verboten topics are politics and religion, for which there's no shortage of other excellent sites where they can be vigorously debated.

I am yet to post in this thread as my days of smoking are behind me and I uh, uh, what was I going to say?

Seriously though SY, I don't think this is off topic. It involves music and the enjoyment of it. It involves the diy of building your gear and, oh ya, the diy of rolling a fatty while listening. Sound pretty on topic to me.
