hi everyone, I just realized that i just too busy with audioproject to ad to the website. in autumn I am planing to moove to another server(more comfortable, as there only 28mB info ant it takes to pay 10 times a mont for 10GB trafic, I can onle realize what would be if I add more info like300mb)
at the moment there lot of new speakers as my designs(first what comes to my mind is amazing SOLO speker witth scan speak revelator metal midrange(unfortunately it is not sold for public) capable of reproduction 80Hz-15khz,and scan speak 26w revelator sub built to my specifications. ) and also reproductions of variuos manufacturers like rockport technologies and verity audo.. as for wilson there is 6 diferent version of watt puppy with diferent drivers. I was able to get all originals drivers from watt 5/6/7/8(except wat 6 tweetr) and puppy 6/7/8 original drivers. I carefyly measured and yet performance of some makes me wonder both positive and negative. for example there is major diference between puppy 5/6/ woofers and puppy 7/8 woofers. and I fuly understand why david went down sensitivity with watt/puppy8. also I have made diferent watt versions with scan speak, audiotechnology drivers. please be patient and in autumn I will put all that stuff to new website. sorry for delaying

18w4545 will not work in watt puppy, i still doing some efforts to adapt stock drivers ,every time i think i achieved something similar in tonality i compare with original and undesrtand that its utopia. yes its may saound good. but nots the same. stock scan speak and wilson drivers drivers are too diferent- mooving mass, excursion, voice coil lenght ,eficienty ,VAS , frequency response, cone stifness - everything. sonicaly they are much more transparent, mopre lively , more faster. stock scan speak is oposite.
my recomendations is to use original watt puppy 7 or 8 midranges. also its posible to make original wilson audio watt 8 midrange from 18w8545 (4545 is not posible) by using its magnet and cone but this work is quite dificult , all driver must be disasembled(cone, spider, surround, voice coil) and reasembled with diferent parts.
watt puppy 8 is discontinued by now and will be replaced with sasha, i will contact them an ask can i publish details of internal structure of driver or xover schematic if they let me i will. at the mean time my recomendation is use original drivers(can buy from wilson audio dealers as a spare part,or i can help in that way)
have fun.

Hi,
I am looking for a Watt/Puppy clone. Thorstens design is great, but the drivers are not available any more. Any ideas ?
regards
Dieter

Hi,
Well, when I cloned the puppy I was looking at a speaker in these approximate dimensions AND with the original W/P sound.
The current WP's have lost efficiency and changed completely in sound and my original semi-clones would not sound like current W/P's.
I do not BTW feel any longer that the current W/P is as outstanding a Speaker in the current market as the original W3/P2 was in the early/mid 90's.
If you want a speaker that closely approximated the current W/P, this is in some ways easier than in my days. I have little to comment on the current W/P/Sasha, I just do not like them much.
For a Speaker that captures much of what made the original WP great you could try one of the more recent designs by Troels Gravensen:
AT-SW - Magnetic Planar plus 6.5" Audio Technology Woofer 2-Way
10C77 - Audio Technology Subwoofer for the above
I wold suggest the resulting speakers with a heroically enough build cabinet (take a leaf from Magico?) may very well outperform the vast majority of commercial High End speakers, especially if used with a really good active crossover and a seperate Amp for the Bass.
They drivers are not cheap, but definitly worth it.
If you would like much higher efficiency (98dB/2.83V ballpark, down to 70Hz) with a magnetic planar and active sub for a similar form factor as the Sasha, maybe wait-a-bit, I am currently cooking up something along these lines.
Ciao T

OK - it's been a few hours now - my finger nails are chewed up - I'm like a kid waiting for Santa - hmmmmm - I guess I need to cut back on the coffee. 🙄
Folks,
Ahhhm, yes, please do. It will be a few month before anything publishable will exist...

Ahhhh - like a fine wine or meal - good design takes time. For some things several "testings" (or tastings) are needed before it can be declared the "it's done" - "time to enjoy!!!". 😉
All of us will await your design with anticipation. I'll switch over to decaf 😀

I listened to some Watt/Puppies and was blown away. If your 98db concoction can do what these can then I cant wait. BTW, good to see you back here🙂
I have some WATT/Puppy system 6's.
Would love to build a set for the shed. (preferably the 8's or better still Sasha)
Does anyone have the relevant diagrams or draming they could email to me for the project?
Thanks.

Looks like there is a smart *** everywhere you go so I guess I will just have to settle for the real thing in my lounge room. 😛
sorry couldnt resist. Theres a guy round here thats written about cloning these and seems to have put a fair bit of energy into it. He has a website and claims the wilson drivers are modified and can not be easily cloned.
You could probably reverse engineer yours and get close, but it will probably not be like the real thing. TM.

In the last K+T there was announced that Focal drivers will be available again soon at the Lautsprechershop (Strassacker).I am looking for a Watt/Puppy clone. Thorstens design is great, but the drivers are not available any more. Any ideas ?
I also read good things about the Supravox TG-1 titanium dome tweeter, if it has to be a higher sensitivity speaker.
