Vacuum cleaners

That vac looks like a Kirby. And don’t forget to BREATHE that nice, heated, Asbestos-laced air..... (Can you say, “Mesothelioma”?...:yuck::skull:)
And of course, they made a hair dryer attachment. Coincidentally, my Kirby just ground to a smoking halt! My wife's long hair had wound around everything and jammed it, melting the drive belt. I really should clean it out more often. But I bought a cheap box of spare parts at an auction years ago, so I have 4 spare belts. And a spare head section, two spray attachments, carpet washer, rotating upholstery brush, bags, tools and shoulder strap in case you want to use the motor section on its own to power such accessories.
But sadly no hair dryer or (my favourite) the orbital sander that doubles as a massager. :(

Good connection lousymusician!

The Chaparral 2J was also known as the 'Sucker Car'.

It enjoyed a clean sweep in every race and was especially good on a dirt track! :)

Back in the late 50's my mother had 2 canister vacuums, I don't remember the name, but the hose connected to the machine with a bayonet connector ( Like a female BNC connector on the end on the hose ). You could connect the hose to the front for suction or to the top for blowing. She used one for vacuuming and used the other one to provide air for her reed organ (formally Pump organ). Her hearing was not very good even back then, so she did not mind listening to the vacuum while she was playing her organ instead of pumping the peddles.

Original DIY Audio.

That Electolux...

The older model 30 Electrolux had a blow-port on the other end. (But if you had the optional cord-reel you had to take that off.) I abused my mother-in-law's 30 about to death in my shop.

But tonight we turn the dial on the boob-tube and hit Elektra Luxx, "Pregnant porn star Elektra Luxx is trying to make a living teaching sex classes to housewives. But...."

Doesn't seem to be about vacuum-cleaners.

No, but this is almost exactly it. You take off the cap on top and attach the hose there to blow.

RJM1, that's the model that came to my mind from your description.

We had that exact filter Queen, same color even, in our beloved beach house that my father built when I was tiny. We lost the house to a fire around '89, and that detail had been forgotten. Thanks for the memory!

This is the model we had. I loved that thing, it was like a Buick. It did blow out of its backside, which came in handy for inflating things. We used to blow up weather balloons and chase each other around the neighborhood screaming and pretending we were in The Prisoner.

The only vacuum I can remember from my youth ('59 - 70) was an Electrolux - dark grey finish IIRC, and damn, but you couldn't kill it. One of the options sold through the local repair shop (remember those, kids?" ) was scented oils that could be saturated in the exhaust filter to act as room fresheners - I'm pretty sure it was oil of wintergreen.

When first married, we were still in an apartment with shared laundry facilities, so a vacuum cleaner came before major appliances - our Filter Queen lasted at least 25yrs before all the repair shops disappeared, so we bought a Kenmore branded canister - not sure who it was made by. Will be celebrating our 47th anniversary this coming May, and we've only ever had two vacuum cleaners.

Old school Maytag top loader laundry pair (circa '75) lasted almost as long as the Filter Queen - through a total of 3 home - but the replacement front loaders didn't fare quite so well - presently on our second set.
Still, that's far less turnover than 50yrs of audio gear. ;)
