It's easy for me either way...be it # of boards x $0.20 or
# of participants x some fixed per order amount.

The goal I think we can all agree to is to use this
opportunity to make a financial contribution to
diyaudio; my feeling is that exactly how we achieve
it shouldn't be that big of a deal.

Just for fun, I looked up how much it will cost to
ship a pair of boards across town. It turns out
to be more than the US rate, and the rate
for across the country is even higher than the
international rate. The Canadian parcel rate
structure doesn't favour light weight packages
at all.

Cheers,
Dennis

I think Andrew is right about using the letter service instead of parcel. I checked the Canada Post rates for oversize letters. Here is a cut and paste of this.

Other Letter Canada U.S.A. International
Up to 100 g $1.15 $1.92 $3.75
Over 100g up to 200 g $1.92 $3.20 $6.40
Over 200g up to 500 g $2.65 $6.40 $12.80

Sorry about the format. I don't know how to enter Tabs into Forum messages.

Dennis, I hope that using large padded envelopes makes packaging easier. If it just adds to the problem please ignore this suggestion.

Thanks
Jim

Can a pair of 1.6mm PCBs fit a letter (~3.3mm thick)?
What would a pair sent as letter post be? It's still around 100gms.
In the UK we are allowed <5mm & <=100gm as letter post.

I tried mailing a pair of Aleph-X PCBs to the UK
and the post office said it cannot be mailed as
a letter. It ended up going as a <250g small
packet.

Hi Guys,
Don't forget. Dennis will have to manage packaging, shipping etc. of about 1000 boards for near 120 participants ...

I don't want that he ends up with dealing with 121 special wishes and having to rubb the boards or fill the packet with helium to make them 1gr lighter ... 😉

Hints are welcome of course, but I trust him that he will find the best solution in any case ...

Also I hope he would find a way to rationalize a bit, otherwise this GB will become his worse nightmare ...

Ok, I'm in a tiny minority.
1001PCBs @ 0.20CAD$ allows ~ 200CAD$ to pay for Dennis' boards and the DIYaudio contribution.

Since there are currently 121 Members showing interest, the same ~200CAD$ could be recovered by adding ~1.65CAD$ to each order.
There's a counter proposal that seems to me to be fair.

I disagree with this because how can it be fair to those who just want 2 boards and pay an extra 20% ($1). I'm up to 20 boards (22 total), so Andrew's proposal actually works in my favour, but I would rather pay a fixed price per board instead of asking Dennis to calculate everyone's amount individually. I know postage may have to be handled on an individual basis, but let's not make his life difficult.

WRT pcb not allowed in a letter/envelope, I think I've heard that Canada Post won't allow you to send a pcb in an envelope. That could explain why it has to be sent as a small parcel.

If everyone insists on the $2 flat fee, I'll just donate to diyAudio on my own and get Dennis something else. I've never paid so little for a pcb before anyway.

Season's Greetings Everyone!

Even though Andrew’s proposal will get us at the same result it will no be fair for those asking for few boards. In the other hand there seems to be consensus on the original proposal, so be it.

Lets have Dennis decide how to pack the boards and make calculations on cost to be paid, he has experience with other GB’s so we will make his life easy to do his task the best way he knows to handle this big global thing.

Cheers,
:deer:

Well; 158 NS10 boards are way more than I would have expected! Just a 1000+ boards of the Toolereg, is a lot less than the final outcome of implementing a thing like that, would have indicated! I feel certain, that this is gonna turn out to be one of those: "Can I still order" threads...ha!

🙂

Hello all,

Now that we have quotes for both the NS10 and the Toole
regulator PCBs, I would like to proceed and gather
information from the GB participants.

Current pricing for the PCBs:
Toole regulator: $4.40 CAD (quantity of 1000)
NS10: $9.80CAD (quantity of 100)
$8.30CAD (quantity of 150)

All figures above include a $0.20CAD per board donation
to Diyaudio.com

Mailing supplies: a $1.00CAD per order will be added
to most orders to cover the cost of mailing supplies.
This amount may be higher for those ordering 20+
boards or those requiring shipment in multiple
packages.

Shipping: The fab is unable to provide an estimate
of the final weight of the boards. Based on some
samples I have, I estimate 50g per PCB. (Perhaps
a little higher since we'll be ordering 2oz weight
boards.)

Please reference these posts for estimates of
shipping charges:

Payment:

All payments are in Canadian Dollar ($CAD) by Paypal.
For Canadian and US participants, the paypal fee
is about 3% of the total; for other participants, the
fee is about 4%. The paypal fee is added to the total.
(sample FX rates for Dec 25, 2008: 1 CAD ~ 0.823USD ~ 0.5875EUR)
