On internet I didn't found any mlportant information on it... The best information I've found is in the book "Les Haut-Parleurs" from Jean Hiraga, and there is a very interesting article from Ernst Spiteri in the old french magazine "l'Audiophile".

Some stuff crossed my desk that indicated that AER had gone out of business & that these are the same designs by a fresh company... don't know how true that is or the whole story.

AFAIK Bert Doppenberg of ORIS fame is quite familiar with the AER founder. I would follow his explanation or ask him for a more precise statement:

The thread seems a bit confusing, but Berts last statement is definitive.

thanx ... i was one of the ones getting the emailed newsletter... reading between the lines, i'd guess that FR Speakers was a silent partner or more likely subcontract supplier for AER and wwhen AER didn't pay their bills.... (pure speculation on my part).

It doesn't really impact me either way, no way could i afford the drivers any way.

I had the chance to listen to Berts latest OBs last weekend at a hifi fair in Germany. There were some Visaton B200s next door (although not in OBs). Some people liked the B200s more - when sitting in the sweet spot. But IMHO the AER OBs were the winner of the show.

For me the question is, in your opinion was the difference between the Visatons and AERs sufficient to justify the price difference? Price is, unfortunately, still a factor for me in determining the "utimate".

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder! You never know what goes on in peoples minds then.😀

A clear and definite "NO" as long as one has to justify a price for himself instead of simply cashing out. :xeye:

This is a fine case of diminuishing return:
The 2.5fold price* of the "Quasar" dipole (3 drivers per side=1800 US$) compared to a pair of B200 plus woofers (Visaton Solitude =1500 US$ for a pair including filter components and material) results in an audible difference, which not everybody would define as "better". For my taste the AER drivers are the benchmark in fullrange drivers, but 5% less performance for less than half the price is sufficient for me.

Rudolf

* All prices derived from Euro prices in Germany
And keep in mind, that the electronic chain driving the Quasars (tube amps for the AERs) was at least 3 times more expensive than the set driving the Solitudes.
