Open baffle consisting of 4 TangBand w8-2145 in parallel. Build based on ECdesigns' specifications.
Sound is very natural, high resolution. Bass is solid.
Try adding some felt to the baffle, you'll be surprised at how it reduces reflections coming of the baffle.
Even with this small baffle detail improved with the felt added. This is automotive underfelt and I covered it with speaker cloth.
I have also used green Scotchbrite scouring pads. Not the prettiest but they work. I suppose if you covered them with speaker cloth that would work really well too.
My take at open baffles with the Philips 9710AM/01 (the Philips AD5201A "Bombardon" woofer sits in a sealed enclosure). In practice I stuff a pillow at the back of the open baffle.
The loudspeakers have 800 Ohm impedance, so are meant for OTL tube amplifiers. I use them with bi-amping and an active tube crossover (400 Hz/18 dB per octave).

The Lii Audio F-15's were well worth the 3 months they took to arrive. This is an exceptional wide band driver that competes with or exceeds the much loved Zenith 49CZ alnico's.
Hello,
I am looking to have small OB for my desk and I have in mind something simple like that.
I have tweeters Raal 70-20xr I can use for this project.
For the mid/bass driver, I have in mind Supravox 215 signature
https://www.supravox.fr/produit/215-signature-haut-parleur-grave-medium-etendu-35w-94db-8ω/
Do you think I will be able to have reasonable bass output from these with this kind of small baffle ? (like 10inch wide x 18 inch tall) ?
** I will listen them at 1.1m from them and I am able to put EQ to boost the bottom.
(here my simulation of the look)

Here my mesurement at the listening position. After a long period of rest, I finally managed to bring home my new Open Baffle project with AEDipole 15 / 16R, TD8M and Beyma TPL200H speakers.
All coils from AEDipole15 are connected in parallel to get 4R. Amplification for them I do with an NCore 400.
I did some measurements (UMIK-1) in Audiolense and as you can see the low frequencies start to drop sharply from 40 Hz.
I'm curious if anyone else did measurements for AE Dipol 15 ,and what the result was.
Thank you very much .
Green line = AE dipole 15
Red line = siare NDH15-3
Baffle has 18inch wide (no wings). Room have 9.5x12 feets and were at 1.1m from the back wall and I was at 8.5 feets away.
With the room gain, I was flat down to 20hz.

Bass SPL with the 215 can be expected to be anaemic on that OB. The Xmax will bottom out so EQ won't save it:
If you put a ripole/SLOB under it you will get the preferential forward bass SPL in the near field. Could XO @ 150Hz. Should be able to squeeze a 3-way into a 10x20" baffle.
Hornresp models OBs including ripoles.
I'm on "same boat" like kazap. 🙂 Supravox 215, or even 215 RTF 64 are a great drivers.Bass SPL with the 215 can be expected to be anaemic on that OB. The Xmax will bottom out so EQ won't save it:

If I have a opportunity, I will use them with some form of slob, similar like this:

Supravox drivers deserve this, not desktop use (IMHO 🙂)

I tried 4 pcs 18 dayton umax without baffle sub, measuredly it is a killer and it plays loud, but it is not the dipole sound I like, not the weightless quick sound
have tried 3-4 solutions with 18 inches, always fall back to 15´ as the best choice for dipole bass

best choice for dipole bass
With all your experience with dipole bass, which driver and in what configuration have you enjoyed bass the most?
The SLOB dipoles (XSDs) just got some real crossovers on PCBs. They sound fantastic. All film MKP caps. Probably imagining things but it seems the PCB mounted crossovers sound better than the P2P wired ones?
I use something similar, but woofers facing out with magnets inside. I put cover over sides and top. Kind of like SL did with his H shaped baffles. It is still dipole but limits cancellation to some digree, and definitely helps. Bass exactly i want. So i would not give up on those, perhaps experiment with modifications.I tried 4 pcs 18 dayton umax without baffle sub, measuredly it is a killer and it plays loud, but it is not the dipole sound I like, not the weightless quick sound

what do we really want with an´open baffle´ bass?I use something similar, but woofers facing out with magnets inside. I put cover over sides and top. Kind of like SL did with his H shaped baffles. we cil free ourselves from box resonances, and the delays it gives in the rhyme,
we have to choose elements, easily driven, they are fast, if you can not do with 1 or 2 then you have to buy 4 pieces, it will sound much faster, better and more punchy than 4 pcs heavy freckle 18 incheswhat do we really want with an´open baffle´ bass?

Not sure what you are saying.
You gave 15" big baffle.
You gave 18" no baffle.
Do not complain. Think.
