Hi SDF - Looks very nice so far - I'm interested because I also use the ESS AMT1 mid-tweet on my speakers. Please share what you are doing for cross-overs and listening impressions with us. I keep looking for where you have hid the wires
Also - your impression of having the AMT mounted into the baffle - I intend to do mine with the it simply mounted on top.
Is your mounting of the AMT a bit recessed from the baffle to align it with the wooofer? Clever lad - I like it!

Hi c2cthomas !
About crossover, I've just made some tests only.. and in the simplest way, using DCX2496 (...the easiest solution😱) It allows too, to adjust phase (delay)
For the wire 😀... I have not yet installed the binding post which will may be neutrick speakon socket in fact..I don't have make my choice 🙄
..all in all, I've trying to find a good compromise, to me, between design (not too big, not too ugly...) and "performance" so I don't planned to use the PHL2460 (8feet driver) under 120Hz!
Thanks for your kindly comments 🙂

It was in first time for time align yes..but I must admit I don't remenber the frequency which was calculate for! 😕 (..my actif crosover will be my "saver"

SDF: what midrange driver are you using there? Looks like a 10" (?)
I would think that you'll get better polar response from the ESS/Heil driver by just putting it on top with no baffle? Thats what ESS did with it, and I think it a good idea.

...and better again will be the ESS stand alone because it won't be disturb by vibration of the baffle (which decrease the precision of treble) but in my case I don't want cause it makes the speakers ugly 😡

I have a pair of PHL 2520 8" midrange drivers that I bought used. Do you know anything about them? I've been thinking about trying them in an open baffle/dipole design or an open back midrange-type design.
Welcome on PHL audio web site
The PHL2520 is an extremelly gooddriver with high efficience but the bad side is it is not usable under 200Hz :-(
...PHL2520 is a kind of big PHL1120.
With a boost If think it's interesting to test them on an open baffle (..even if the qts is not perfecly appropriate to OB)!

Big bump for a good thread.......
>> Here's a link << to a long thread of pictures. Most of the pictures are of open baffle speakers using Hawthorne Audio drivers, but there are a couple of amps and turntables mixed in there. Either way, there's lots of open baffle eye candy in there.

It seems size doesn't matter in their houses 😀.
Awesome.

Awesome.
And I might be one of the worst. ha ha
And my old project, still running nicely for over 3 years, without changes.

Someone has posted Linkwitz Orion on Youtube.
Orion Plus and Garrard 301
Absurd as it may sound, I can hear differences in room interaction between dipole and box speakers from various clips in YouTube.

Great videos, thank you for the links.
