have you tried to remove speaker/load when the amp is operating at +/-85vlts , or have you tried to power the amp without a speaker/load ??

Yes, I know some people have seen smoke when turning on D900 without speaker. 😀
Well, the modification actually cannot remove that risk of smoking at all, but make it more safe. The two diodes after inductor will act as bypass. When the output voltage increased because open loop, the diodes keep output voltage never more than supply voltage by discharge the voltage to supply rails.
The bad news is that even the voltage is as low as your supply, it still can damage your zobel cap as it is not designed for such high frequency. So it is really depend on cap quality. The good news, except that cap, your amp will be fine.

IRFB4227 will maybe only on music program whitstand 2 ohm load at 85V not even think how you manage to not blow them at 1 ohm load on each half bridge (full bridge 2 ohm total load seen by the amp) 🙂

The schematic posted by you is full bridge.
In half bridge it's not perfectly impossible, but absolutely not safe. See recommendation in datasheet: 300-500 W. Maybe little more, but not 1500 W.
