It would be great with an overview / table over the growing family of TSSA amps. Specs could include output in watts @ (2), 4 and 8 ohm for V1.7, V1.8, V2, V2SE, V4 and V8. Plus recommended minimum sensitivity for loudspeakers, etc. BTW - An impressive lineup of high quality amps to the DIY community 🙂...What's the confirmed power output @ 8Ohm for V4 and V8?

As you all can see it is very compact. 170x70x31.5mm
The control board can be added just on top. This makes it possible to upgrade later without changing everything. Just a new control board and re calibration.
The amp has now balanced input as well.

Yesterday the DSD and PCM over USB was running. It has very good performance. Compared to PCM1794A it has more depth and detail without getting harsh...
2L recordings (Mozart) in flac and DSD... DSD has softer edges on the violins but do not show lack of details.
Right now it runs PCM up to 384KSamples and 32Bit and DSD64,DSD128 and will in the end run DSD256 when the software is in place....
Both will be the case. We have not decided yet if it is going to be DIY design...

I know this but I had to say how happy this feature makes me. 😀
Most DACs have balanced outputs nowadays and also have lossless or high-end volume controls built-in, so taking advantage of a DAC balanced output is always nice feature in my book.

The DAC will only have USB input.
The outputstage will be on an elevated board that makes it possible to make your own outputstage.
The outputstage delivered is with the best possible parts for singleended output.
What you should provide is:
1) an powersupply with +5.5V and +/-15V (an of the shelf SMPS can be used and most of them can be regulated up to +5.5VDC out).
2) an chassis
3) USB cable
4) RCA connectors for LEFT and RIGHT output.
What you get:
1) AK4490 DAC
2) USB AUC 2 which works with all LINUX units and MAC's (We are looking into modifying the firmware to support Iphone and and Ipad through Camera connector kit ... It is only a small adjustment in the firmware needed)
3) Super low noise regulators for DAC, opamps and oscillators
4) Time aligned signals
5) PCM 384KSamples
6) DSD/DOP 64/128
The price is 236€ + shipping....
Preorder price is 216€ + shipping

Have you considered an I2S input? Will it be sold as an assembled board or as a kit with smd components presoldered? Sounds very interesting 🙂I know this if off topic.

It will be sold as a fully assembled board. The xmos chip is an BGA package, we have no possibility to test it when it is not fully assembled.
The output stage will be an add on module, so that you can build your own filter or opamp solution "discrete" or "chip opamp".
We could have chosen to make space for passive voltage regulators but the ones i use is superior to the most.
If somebody wants to use an I2S interface with this DAC, they need to program the DAC depending on the mode they wants to use either through SPI or I2C..
All this is part of the firmware in the xmos chip..
If i would choose to provide I2S only then i think it is waste of an good chip.
DSD is only available to the DAC with prober DSD signal .. I2S does not provide it.
I have not found any AK4490 DIY kit other than DIYHK.
