Also with the I-pod he could eliminate the input jacks and replace them both with a cable and a stereo mini jack at the end.
The iPods with the docks have line out i believe, even the headphone out... just a cable needed

Would make the amp seem like a monster 🙂

Dave,
My thought was that having only a cable coming out of the GC
he could avoid those huge 😉 RCA jacks
BTW do you still have some of that muuuuuuuuu metal?
With shielding like that we could snug the chips right up to the toroid.

Hi!
---- threadjack -----
Check out the new Rio Karma hard drive player. It supports mp3, wma, ogg (!!!) AND flac - with flac being a freely available (that is open source 🙂 ) lossless audio codec (that means audio quality like CD with files being 25 - 40 % smaller).
Sadly, Apple doesn't warm up to other standards other than mp3. Ogg would be nice (better quality at same / lower bitrates), flac would be nice for audiophiles...

Bye,

You need to figure a way to mate an iPod to this new amp.
I bet an iPod playing .wav files would sound pretty dang good.

There are some new pictures on the website:

I like this one:
Peter,
Do you have the original Patek unit on hand? That would be an interesting size comparison.

What convinced you to stop using the Maple? 😉
I like the new one much better. Have you compared the sound yet?

I just found the source of exotic wood (anything really). I still didn't have time to play the amp.
Conductive paint.....or if youd like to get it for a fraction of the price of conductive paint, then you buy zinc spray 😉
Magura🙂
Magura🙂
Peter do you have your aluminium anodized or leave it "bare"
oh yeah and wheres the exotic wood supplier 🙂

Since you live in the Toronto area, there are two suppliers that I know about:
Exotic Woods in Burlington
A & M Specialty Wood in Cambridge.

Exotic Woods also has a location in Etobicke (or somwhere in Toronto). You can find them in Yellow Pages.
I always treat aluminum. If it's a bigger run, with anodizing, if it's a one off project, you can't do better than alodine. It's quick, it works good enough and it looks well.

Hi Peter,GC designs of yours, very exquisite. The panel of the aluminium and those four silver capacitors leave a good impression on me. I see a lot of designs of yours to use this kind of capacitor. Is it Panasonic fc? What parameter? Where can buy it? thanks!

It looks like he is using 1000uF 35v BlackGate capacitors in the Patek amplifier shown above.

50 volt rating I hope if he is being safe! 😉
Digi, were you asking about the caps because they are silver? If so, this is achieved by skinning the caps, ie taking off their plastic jackets. Some people claim that this changes the sound although I cannot hear any difference but it does make them look nicer.
If you skin caps, remember that their cases are conductive so don't let them touch anything else metallic (including each other).
