TPA3116D2 Amp

I'm really happy with LL1540 transformers, but suspect that LL1690 would be a significant improvement

You may try an ordinary modem-transformer, less than $6...

Performs like:

From Datasheet:

f-3dB: 10Hz-55kHz

I am modding a Danzz board for my brother and for the life of me cannot find any TDK .22uf 250v X7R caps for the bootstraps in my collection (I know I ordered a bunch a while back). If I am doing the snubber mod, how essential is it to have these ceramic bootstrap caps also?

Don't know if my answer go in the right way,
but as far I know, I mod my yj board step by step, and the better improvement was with this ceramic caps.

DUG amp build

Quick pic of my DUG amp build. Posting here as I assume most people reading DUGs GB thread read this thread as well.

This is the one I am building for myself with the Destroyer OS design PSU, 120va/15v toroid. The input caps are Sprague 2.5uf PIO with 0.27 Vitamin Q bypass.

Sounds fine but will do some more listening and comparisons tomorrow and post.

This board is practically made to house the illustrious coil craft components.

Any hum or noise?

Look forward to your review. Curious to see how the audio dynamics stack up against some of the other 3116 boards.

Yeah, its great having the room to do a proper job mounting those massive coils.

Quiet as!

So am I!

ChrisMmm,

Very nice job with the all-in-one solution. Can't wait until I get a pair of joined DUG boards myself.

After a San Francisco Audiophile Society meeting with Roger Modjeski of Music Reference, my audio friend who bought my first modified YJ blue amp brought his amp to install the bootstrap snubber mod. After the mod was completed, we could really hear the difference--it was that noticeable. We compared it to my second modified YJ blue amp with the CineMag CMLI-15/15B input transformers and the amp was on another level. Now my friend is going to place an order for some CineMags himself. The silent background, the larger soundstage, the timbral detail make this a really refined amp.

Roger Modjeski announced that he's starting an audio engineering school curriculum here in the San Francisco Bay Area, and I am really excited about learning from a master.

Hi,

I'd like to try the main input caps mod on my TPA3116 Sure board.

As Panasonic SEPF 330uF 25v OSCON not so eaysy to find, waht do you thiink of using :
Cond Elco radial Low ESR 105° 220 µF 20 % 35 V pas 5 mm Vishay 2222 136 66471

Caps on the board are rated 220 mF/35 V.

Second question, how to use the mute pin on this board, connect it to VCC to mute ?

In series with Rubycon polymer inputcaps?

Well spotted! No, I installed the SMD caps initially to test, for use with the PIO caps I put a jumper around the +ve input SMD caps on the underside of the board - handy through the hope mount points there. Also the -ve input has another cap in series (underside again) to make it closer value to the PIO.

At some stage in the future its likely I will try transformer coupled inputs.
