TPA3116D2 Amp

Gotta Run Speakers that are worth owning too.
Despite that the ACA was a Picnic in the park, afternoon "Build yerself an Amplifier' social event.
Nelson uses Tannoy DC's in Jensen Imperial boxes as his Reference drivers.
Not some bottom feeder 50$ speaker.
Would you fit Wallmart tires on your Porsche Turbo?

I think that $50 (ea) price range can get you DIY drivers that are quite worthy of being paired with an ACA. Given the low 5watt ouput and low 14dB gain - you need high sensitivity drivers. Fostex FE103En, Faital Pro 3FE22, 4FE32, etc are all suitable as well as some 5in pro audio full range drivers. In the right box - these are some of best choices for a wimpy 5watt amp. Even a GR Research XL-S 2 way bookshelf with 90dB sensitivity fits in this price range.

The ACA has some great bass but what a $8 TPA3116D2 and $6 19v SMPS can do with gobs of power and EQ should not be considered shabby.

The comparison is would you put Walmart tires on a restored 356 with a stock 70hp engine? (Not tha Walmart makes tires even. ) as opposed to a modern 911 with circa 600hp.

Hello everyone on the forum, the first time I write here, and now I have a problem I really understand what I've read, after all these 900+ pages.

I have a problem with Breeze Audio tpa3116d2 amp arrived after 40 days of waiting and has the noise the right channel, not very strong but it is always present and annoying. As white noise on TV. I am not an expert in electronics, but handle the soldering iron quite decent. The problem is that I do not know where to start. Im PC gay. Is there someone who has had the same problem and if I can something replace with a new component and solve the problem?

Mine (4ohm, 8ohm, and 16ohm) measured with DATS to spec. Are you comparing at 2.83v or at 1 watt and 1m?

I modeled the 3FE25 4ohm version. The MFG lists that as 91dB at 1w/m (freq. graph is similar).

WinISD calculates the sensitivity from the Thiele/Small and other parameters and has been fairly accurate regarding other drivers I have modeled.

But it's hard to argue with measured data. Could it be that the mfg spec.'s and the DATS measured data is for 2pi space while WinISD is calculating 4pi space? That would explain a 6dB difference.

Hey radiosmuck, have you tried any of these TPA3116D2 amps?
If so what did you think compared to the lunch money amps?
Got to say that after extended listening I have to admit I prefer "lunchie", even in bog-standard as bought condition.
There's just something about that chip that is 'right' providing you only need or can live with just a couple o'watts.

I've got Gmarsh's Wiener with a stepped attenuator, no pre-amp. It is better in many ways, depth, scale, composure, smooth (a bit soft?) and more detailed. But a lightly modded tda7297 is a more involving listen with cleaner bass. Brass and strings have more body, cymbals more snap.
I like both. It's been said that the tpa3116 needs a pre to get the most out of it, I've yet to try.

What kind of "lightly modded"? Do you also have the Folsom TDA7297?
