Well, clearly it can't. I think Mads specified 4-6mA were possible but ideally 5mA as this is what he made his with and it is, he says the ideal.

I think the jfets Idss should be at about 6mA as there is a 10R source resistor to give you about -0.05V bias (or -1mA less from Idss).

That's interesting. I can't argue with you, as I know nothing about this stuff - it's all black magic to me 😱 I'll certainly put that issue to the designer and see what he says though. He is an electrical engineer by trade, so I am surprised though.

In conclusion, there is an error on the Idss specification in the circuit. On the other hand, I do not see a big issue to use 6.8mA jfets as the source resistor can be increase to get 5mA current flow at the jfets.
