no, power traffo for a tube phono stage...
the other 3 are for a tube tone control amplifiers...

i bought a component tester from RBT, a local DIY'er...
and since been doing testing inductance tests on traffos...
this is primary coil only...

with cores...

therefore the core's mu is about 428..
notice also changes in impedance with and without core, 48.6 from 17.9 ohms..
and now to compare deeco iron with z11 irons...
deeco iron is on the left and the z11 at the right...

choke has about 1400 turns #30 wire on a 3/4 x 1 inch bobbin...
inductance of coils is 49.5mH

deeco iron assembled and gapped showed 4.65H

z11 choke gapped and assembled showed 6.96..
this shows that for a given size, you will get more inductance out of a z11/M6 cores
than an H50 or deeco core...

Hi Tony, that's cool. I have similar tester 🙂
which core is better... the one with lower inductance or the higher one?

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Z11/M6 gives higher inductance for the same iron dimensions...
no no... it's not a resistorIs that telling us that the resistor has 10uH of inductance?
It is 10uH inductor, "inductor model resistor" that the seller says 😛
It might be a Bourns inductor, part number 77F100K-TR-RC: (here is a link)

Thanks Tony for these measurement,Z11/M6 gives higher inductance for the same iron dimensions...
now I can start to make my own transformer 😎
with more confidence
yes, john, now we can put some numbers on what we do.....😀
for inductors that will have dc biasing, i suspect that inductance
will be lower, at least a half of what we measure...

I think the higher one is better. You have the higher one, the less turns of wire can achieve good low freq response, therefore, low RDC, low leaked inductanceHi Tony, that's cool. I have similar tester 🙂

the data for E only, gapped and EI are very useful.
Can the inductance ratios of 1:2:4 be used as a general guide?

not sure about that, will try this on bigger irons...
thank you.................. will try this on bigger irons...

here is what happens to an opt winding that has failed...
the opts were from a 6v6 pp amp wherein the windings tested open circuit...

Hi AJT
😱 Did you mean that they has tested the amp without load on sec winding?

maybe....😉
i do not know the history, the opt's were shot when i got them and tested as open, so i decided to investigate..
the pictures showed localized hotspots where the wires had fused...
I think maybe it caused by scratch on the enamel and not covered with varnish then then discharge occurred.maybe....😉
