The Weather

We are in our camper at Chatsworth in the High Peak, Derbyshire. Heavy rain about 10 days ago followed by freezing temperatures and snow. This kind of weather only happens every few years in England now - 50 years ago it was the norm every winter. Absolutely stunning. (Pics taken with old iPhone).

Yes, when I was a lald in the '60s, on the NE coast of England, we had snow every winter, schools closed and we loved it.
The summers were also good. In fact the seasons were defined and predictable.

I have no idea what weather to expect next month, never mind for the spring and summer.

With 12" of snow & ice still outside.......
We are about 350 miles northeast of you on the Ohio River. There is about 12 inches or more snow piled up in the back yard. There is a creek back there, but it is underneath all that snow, which is on top of about 3 inches of solid ice. Water is still flowing under the ice. The pool was drained down to about 16 inches below the rim to repair a leak. We decided not to fill it up until spring. It is nearly filled with snow.

We went to church this morning. The long icicles are almost 3 feet long. I have spent several hours a day keeping the driveway clear since both of our neighbors live alone and are over 80 years old.

Yes. Summer-like heat starts mid-May and lasts until the end of October. June is rainy season, but still hot and very humid. July and August are oppressively hot and humid. I do feel like I am acclimating fairly quickly, although I absolutely must wear shorts and breathable t-shirts while many Japanese walk around in jeans and long sleeved shirts in that type of heat. I find it rather unbelievable. Renovating our home last summer with no AC I was basically wet all the time. Good thing beer is cheap!

Another shocking thing about the weather here, more about the people really, is that schoolchildren wear shorts and t-shirts for outdoor physical education classes all year round. 5 Celsius? Yep, they are out there! Wow!

People seem extremely tolerant of both heat and cold here.
I lived in Tokyo 2006-2011. The humidity and heat in July, Aug and 1st half of September was something else. October through April weather was great though.

Ho hum, dead of winter in Vancouver. What's a guy to do?
Sunny there in the days. Work on your tan at the beach.
What I would like to do is repair a 14 W receiver for FM reception at my summer house. Then put all new caps in a 30 year old amp that works for a charity out there, to replace the one they have of equivalent age and a noisy fan.
What I am actually doing is repairing my mailbox that was twisted off by a snow plow. 5th day, about 2 hours in the cold each day. I have the snapped 4x4 pole captured by aluminum angles, and today, two braces for the crossbar for the metal box. TBD detaching a 4x4 brace that no longer fits due to the aluminum in the way, and screwing the 4x4 crossbar under the box to the braces. Getting dark.
I took some lovely pictures of my yard with snow & footprints of scavangers. I actually got the HDMI cable phone to PC to show me the files in my android phone. The folder labeled "pictures" has one file in it that activates audacity software and another that does nothing. No 9 pictures I have taken. #)($*&#_%(^

Yeah Cal, it's been pretty mild so far. I've seen a very light frost on the car windows only once this season. Even that was gone by 8-9am.
Some of our apple trees as well as a number of other deciduous treess are still holding on to a few green leaves, nasturtium are hanging in there thinking spring is right around the corner. I'm less optimistic

you refurbisch an Akiya ? Well done if so !

Nice country and people. I wisch I could go here every year. But Kyushu and south of it, visited the others islands. Definitly nice people.

Looking at the snow at Hokaido in the winter and spring is something as well, much more snow than everywhere I saw in a town . Yeah a beer after an Onsen is nice ! 🙂

Here (France) the flue is killing more than the sleeperies... and Paris climate from on year became London one.... sorta Supertramp song it is raining again ! .... After several years of dryness and begining of water lacking in the soils ! Go figure....

cheers

Beat the winter.... First buy a new snowblower replacing the old steed. Hire a snow removal service to clear the driveway. Now observe the quantity of snow. When I had that old blower and no service this time of year it was at least 3-5 feet deep. Problem solved.....

Well you icey-people; I was stuck repairing brick paving in the full sun today for 6 hours. It got to 40C and I'm stuffed! Even the crows were panting, beaks wide open.

The job continues tomorrow, but fortunately the forecast temperature is only 24C and possible rain.
I'd be stuffed, too. I'll take the cold (max -40 °C last January) because I can dress accordingly - down parka, big mitts, ski pants, winter boots - when I walk the dog (who doesn't care how cold it is) twice daily. In summer here, where it occasionally, but rarely, gets to 40° C, I'm like the dog in doing as little outside as possible and staying in the shade when it's hot (in the 30s is enough for me).

Wildfire (California), various region with a lot of ice and snow, some hot places, and flooding in the middle and North States of here (Brazil), and others.... meanwhile, I must remember for myself: although I'm muttering about the hot nights here (maxing the mean temperature), since I recently back from some vacations in the beach (ahh, that far better climate, not needs a AC for sleep), it could be worst ;-)

Also for more innard continental here: for northern Argentina and Paraguay, the temperatures are far worst than here.... better not to complain too much or perhaps the furious heat will come here too, hehe ;-)

We had 44C here today and I this time I decided not to work in it! 🙄

The temp in Geraldton, a town a few hundred km up the coast, hit almost 50C. Worst thing is the humidity that came with it because of Tropical Cyclone Sean hovering off out coast....very uncomfortable. We have evaporative aircon so it only got down to 29-30C inside today. This is also the forecast minimum temp for tonight.

Fortunately, I have a swimming pool, but not waterproof bedding...
