Over the last few years, I have experienced more and more that Saharan sand mixing with rain. Here in Central Europe. The cars are covered in yellow mud after the rain.
Not to mention that we watched in horror few years ago how tornadoes destroyed buildings in US. Today, tornadoes are also an everyday reality in Europe.

We get Saharan sand all the way over here too, last year there were some awesome looking sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico from it……I’m surprised there’s any Sahara left!

Magnus, why the glum look?
This is an excellent opportunity to recruit coming generations to the wonders of diy electronics, quality music and sound systems. Or you could go fishing if the rain is tolerable.
It's not too bad here, not exactly warm but it could be worse.

I don't think he has that much interest in sitting sniffing solder vapours and letting loose blue magic smoke from small plastic caterpillers.
I plan to go to either Orust or Lysekil as there may be less rain by the coast, and he can see the OCEAN!!

Been musing on temperature swings over a year as UK generally swings less that 30 degrees over a 12 month period. I think Cal has had nearly a 50 degree swing this year. (note all in °C in this post). If you take the max and min extremes its 65° but those were 35 years apart 😀
Yes, certainly one to remember Bill, like so many places this year. Officially -5º to 41º in 2021 here in my city of Surrey, near Vancouver. Small pockets of more extreme so yes, more than a 50º swing.
So glad to have a little cool and rain right now. Never thought there would be so many praying for rain in Vancouver, aka the 'rainy city'

Quite normal to have a -15 to +25 swing here, rare to have less than that, can be -25 to +29 sometimes.
Edit.
One time I personally experienced a 40c difference in a single day, was repairing some electronics outside in the sun in a sheltered area, +18c right there, after the sun set it plummeted to -22c and -23c as I finished packing up.
I wouldn't call it "extreme", but it does heavily impact expected life cycle on certain things.

In the NC mountains we’d see 40F+ swings in a 24hr period fairly regularly. I don’t miss that at all !
looks a bit high given record for Scotland is 33.2 . You must have had a little heat pocket.
The official records are a bit naff in hilly parts.
The local microclimate here often differs a lot from the nearest met office site (20 miles away).
I have 2 Davis weather monitors here - same as met office etc use.

90 000 tons of Saharan sand ends up in the Amazon every year. Incredible.
There’s a spectacular photo somewhere on the Web of sand blowing offshore from the Namibian desert taken by a satellite. A lot of that would also end up in the Amazon.

Someone just told me that due to genetic defects, Norwegians are born with 0.5 promille alcohol deficit so they have to continue to drink to stay healthy 😎

Not off topic here in the weather thread Jan.
Hot and sunny causes drinking
Rain days cause drinking
Cloudy days cause drinking
Cold days cause drinking
You see it's a vicious cycle, genetics or no genetics. Am I right?

Many years ago a wise man once said that "It's hard to reason with hurricane season."
After 62 years in the middle of the target zone for hurricanes, I packed up and moved 1200 miles north. Unfortunately, I can run but I can not hide. Twice since my move, one of those unreasonable events found me. Yesterday was one of those days, Fred came knocking.
Flood, and flash flood warnings came out of the TV, radio and every cell phone in the county. It did rain, a LOT, and the creek behind the house overflowed into the backyard. I had already stuffed all of the electronics, computers, parts, and other stuff in the basement that didn't want to get wet up on to the workbenches, and even upstairs. Fortunately no water came into my house. My neighbor was not so lucky.
We have had 5 power outages of over 8 hours so far this year. All but one have been caused by trees and power lines becoming intimate with each other. We did have several brief outages yesterday, but the power stayed on.....so far.

I have a similar situation with banks. When I put my money in some bank - that means this bank will have large troubles in 2-3 years. 🙂Twice since my move, one of those unreasonable events found me. Yesterday was one of those days, Fred came knocking.
