1) No one was told two channel stereo is no good.
2) No one was told multichannel achieves nirvana.
It appears we found a critical weakness in the reader.

In this case, revelation = marketing.Boy, I’m really confused now with this latest revelation.
That's the "F" part of FUD.First we were told that the 2 channel stereo we have been listening to for all these years is really no good. It has serious flaws and weaknesses. So all the many hour of using them and thoroughly enjoying the music from them was a just a waste of time. We couldn’t have possibly been enjoying it. Too many flaws.
the only problem with multichannel audio is that you have to convince The Beatles or Pavarotti to rerecord all over again 🙂
oh i feel sorry for you guys not happy with two channels, I guess you never heard well executed hifi
how would you listen to seven channel audio on headphones?

Here are your posts regarding 2 channel stereo over the last five days. Despite your denial it's pretty clear that you consider 2 channel stereo to have significant weaknesses and therefore not be very good.

Here's Floyd Toole's comments… He identified two weak links in today's audio:
1) Recording quality.
2) Two Channel Stereo.

2 channel stereo was a really sticky problem but I think it's going to change pretty fast now.

They're so satisfied with two channel stereo that they spend hours, months, and years trying to correct the problems caused by two channel stereo.

I'd expect the people most happy with two channel stereo are those who don't post in this forum devising strategies to overcome the weaknesses of two channel stereo.

The arrays suffer from all the same two channel stereo problems all normal two channel stereo speakers suffer from.

Putting my skeptic hat on, there is a clear indication that this is little more than the drive to push consumers away from physical media and instead towards a streaming model where perpetually reprocessed media renders prior formats obsolete. It’s about monetizing each listen and collecting user data.
how would you listen to seven channel audio on headphones?
Quite easily. The basic maths for this has been in place for decades and a lot of research is ongoing to improve things driven by the gaming industry. The limitation is mainly calibrating your personal ear canal and HRTF into the system. This bit still needs work.
I had foolishly assumed that the rise of yoofs listening to music on Iphones would drive more music being released in a binaural format, but of course yoofs don't care. At least mine don't.
Here are the Apple headphones that play spatial audio and include head tracking.

All of your posts denigrating 2 channel stereo are really no surprise considering the title you chose for this thread to begin with:

Looks like they were already baked in the cake.

does that involve implanting more ears on your head? sorry, could not resist...

Facebook Reality Labs (Oculus) produced an open access paper on spatial audio headphone frequency response preference. According to the paper frequency response preference changes based on whether you're listening to two channel stereo or spatial 3D content.

That might have implications for preferred room curves with multichannel and spatial audio sources.

If your having immersion issues with stereo you are probably just not listening loud enough, if the sound starts sounding unpleasant before 110dB or so your EQ is off or your speakers/amps incapable. Just look at ASR most small speakers are getting very distorted even at 85dB, how do you expect immersion if your listening at lower SPL than the actual event?
That ^^^ is plain reckless and irresponsible. Do what you will to your own ears, but never recommend this to others.

Here's a thread on sound level listening/design targets and hearing damage.
SPL targets for speaker design
SPL targets for speaker design
Post #3 in that thread hits the nail right on the head. People should own SPL meters and check for themselves.

its not a recommendation and I don't listen this loud I'm just trying to explain why your not getting the immersion of a live event. I think everyone here is aware of hearing damage.

Actually the events I go to are 75-80dB average in the seat. So I can't see how listening much louder than the reality would give me the feeling of being in the hall I get whilst there.
ok but 80dB average, 100dB peaks? if your using small speakers they are already distorted. Taking an arbitrary high end speaker:
