The Very Best Amplifier I Have Ever Heard!!!!

Hello
Thank you , I have source for that to .
I personally prefer Exicon laterals from Profusion! That has more punch , better bass , and cleaner mids!
There are lots of Hitachi laterals marked "made in Japan"
Also I prefer plastic case over TO3!
Thank you!
Cheers

gaborbela's Renesas/Hitachi 2SK1058s were not fake. Looked real to me in his picture and probably were. Why would they be fake? They're available everywhere from official distributors and are affordable. Why such a long discussion about them?

But the Chinese Goldmund clone kit from eBay is a POS. Simplified schematic, updated with new parts, etc. It's actually a half pieced together clone of the following Goldmund amps: SRP, mixed with SRM, SRM2, JOB 500, JOB Mono, JOB 300, JOB 150, JOB Stereo, SR2, SR3 and a few others that I can't remember now.

This clone is in no way or shape a clone of Mimesis 29, 29+, Telos, etc. These amps have serious power supplies and all kinds of other upgrades.

This clone I would personally stay away from, especially when I posted the REAL Goldmund schematic.

Here's a complete list of all the MOSFETS and equivalents that can work in this amplifier:

Plastic Case:

Hitachi 2SK1058/2SJ162 (Obsolete)
Renesas 2SK1058/2SJ162
Hitachi 2SK1057/2SJ161 (Obsolete)
Renesas 2SK1057/2SJ161
Hitachi 2SK1056/2SJ160 (Obsolete)
Renesas 2SK1056/2SJ162
Exicon ECX10N16/ECX10P16
Exicon ECX10N20/ECX10P20
Magnatec BUZ900P/BUZ905P
Magnatec BUZ901P/BUZ906P
Magnatec BUZ902P/BUZ907P
Magnatec BUZ903P/BUZ908P

Metal Case:

Hitachi 2SK135/2SJ48 (Obsolete)
Hitachi 2SK134/2SJ49 (Obsolete)
Hitachi 2SK133/2SJ50 (Obsolete)
Hitachi 2SK176/2SJ56 (Obsolete)
Hitachi 2SK175/2SJ55 (Obsolete)
Exicon ECF10N16/ECF10P16
Exicon ECF10N20/ECF10P20
Magnatec BUZ900/BUZ905
Magnatec BUZ901/BUZ906
Magnatec BUZ902/BUZ907
Magnatec BUZ903/BUZ908

As you can see, there are MANY choices out there. All are fantastic MOSFETS and will work 100% in the Goldmund schematic.

NOTE: THE IRF HEXFETS WILL NOT WORK IN ANY GOLDMUND SCHEMATIC. PLEASE BE CAREFUL!

Hello
I don't know why so hard to believe for some people.
When I clearly stated it was tested , com pared with Renesans , laser marked Hitachi .
All I can say I prefer the Hitachi.
I do not say Renesans are fake! But there are many fake laterals made under Renesans name. At least I see many on the Ebay!
There is no Goldmund on Ebay , just a preamp.
Lets make it clear , I do not care about the amp name , or how old design. I care about only the sound and to be safe to use it!
Nagy you right, I sow many Hitachi marked Japan .
I did some work to a TV repair man 5 years , (actually he repair everything) there I sow some Japan marked Hitachi! Yes it exist!Praudio he just want to sell his TO3 can Hitachi device to me!! HA HA HA!
But I'm not a buyer.. I prefer flat package...
I attach two more picture , one laser marked 2SK1058 Japan Hitachi, the 2SJ162 probably fake! Because the case how it look (but not sure)
Another picture fake Renesans, I would not buy those not for a dime!
You can find more test on the ESP site about fake (Chinese) Renesans .
I do not say the orig Renesans fake , but there are many counterfeit device , Hitachi, Toshiba , Sanken and so on!
I try to avoid Ebay semis.
Also I com pared EXICON laterals and in a simple schematic like ProFet , Zenotron I prefer those. Somehow the JFet drive them better!
Many guy tried F5 with Renesans laterals with little success!
With these I van to close these nonsense topic!!!Please guys!
Greeting

Antique collection is my religion.

They all say "Japan", "3B1".

My FIRST diy back in 92' used those. VAS was hitachi inspired with 47pF CDOM's. Did not have to ground heatsink and laterals were run to PCB with WIRES. No squirrely "on the edge" circuit here , just absolute stability and beautiful sound all around. 🙂
If I remember right it was very similar to my CX/symasym without the VAS cascode (18K resistor instead). They ran the VAS real "hot" (20+ mA) like otala did with large heatsinks for all 4 voltage stage trannies (4 X MJE15030/31 ??).

Does anyone have an address on the web for the original Hitachi amp layout. I would very much like to see what they had proposed.

Jocko, That entire module was probably outsourced and made with very small overseas female fingers. It definately looks to be P2P hand assembled. And we all know how much Swiss labor costs.

Will a relay protection device be any safer or faster than a conventional fuse. Considering, anything other than a direct short, the plethora of speaker and cable combinations found at listening rooms of our members could cause premature protection circuit enable.
The idea to add the protection circuit as a separate board is brilliant. If you do not need it or want it you can use something else. I try to use a little common sense with this area to somewhat simplifiy assemblies.

Nags, Thanks for the photos.

Protection board position ...

Hi Bigpanda ,

Will bee something like in the picture , the blue hached PCB , with 2 holes on main board and in front with two 3 pins power connector .Main board it's not ready , I'm working on it. ......

Surprising, isn t it ?......This date back end of 70s, very early 80s..

Nice big 68pF (c712l) ... I guess what works ... works ?? Japanese deserve much respect , good practical , reliable designs. NO "false gods" ..voodoo mumbo jumbo , same for the luxman .. not a "hawksford cascode" , but a "luxman cascode". A world full of shameless IT "pirates". 🙁

Going Japanese by adding a proper output stage bias thingus might be the wiser.
The output stage devices in the Mimesis do far less than 100mA quiescent current. Some like that, some really don't.

(me had a hard-on for Goldmund gold cube monaurals, till the troy ounce price went downhill)
