Yes, that should work fine.
Did you figure out the EQ trick after looking at the musical spectrum?

ha, ive not really looked at it yet.. ive been lost in a world of different amp types and chip selections.. trying to find the best choices within my budget.. there are so many choices and opinions.
ive also just found the 50% discount code for the new TI class d boards..
TI Class D EVM Board 50% Promotion
which has thrown a massive spanner in the works, as they are supposed to be excellent.
im now thinking of buying two of the 3255 boards. they will do 315w into 4 ohms (admittedly with 10%thd) but i doubt i would ever go that loud.
i also assume on a 16 ohm load (the alpairs in series) they will provide a generous but reasonable power level there too.
advantage is the two amps will be identical, meaning same voltage requirements - one big psu for both - cost and space in case saved.
also, as mentioned they are supposed to be great.
wrt the EQ trick.. im not sure i follow completely.. unless you are referring to looking at the graphs for the types of music i like and estimating the area under the graph on either side of the crossover point to see what proportion of the power is required for each "half" ..?

Yes, close to that. You had mentioned wanting to EQ down around 20Hz and were worried about headroom. If you look at my average and peak plots, you'll see what room you have to play with.
The TI deal looks like a good one.

Resembles the Genelec 7050B in one of our production suites. They used a rolled aluminum enclosure. The flared, floor-firing port is just visible on the left.

ok so i just thought id write a quick follow up, now the project is finished and providing my daily sounds.
it was a mammoth undertaking, and grew from a single subwoofer to a full on dual sub, dual fullrange system with a 6 channel minidsp powered amp. it took over a year to complete.
massive thanks to everyone who helped me, and apologies to anyone i bugged too much. i learned a MASSIVE amount about everything from woodworking, to circuit simulation, to heatpipe use.
there are about 2 dozen threads ive started over the last year covering every aspect of the project, so i wont link them all here.. instead ill just post some (bad) photos:

given the awful acoustics of my room, i have to say, after a round of eq with the minidsp and umik mike, it sounds pretty damn good. i had to boost the roll off on the top end, and kill some peaks in the bass, and now its relatively flat from 28 hz up to 20k..
