The Pass Pub: The High-End Off Topic Thread

Hi, guys. Today I was listened the Aleph 5 (commercial) with panels (open hull). I like the sound - has all the charms. The amp is universal for different styles, has a good feel for the quality of the recordings and has a expressiveness.
Now I'm being offered Kit of Aleph 30 on cheap price. He's without J fet and less power, right? So I want the best amp among them. I should wait diy kit Aleph J here or maybe I can buy this 30? pros and cons?
Thanks!

How about the toroid?
secondary 84VCT (meaning 84Vac with center tap, meaning twice 42Vac with common mid tap) - in Papaland hardly applicable to anything, especially if you have just one

you could find something appropriate but its size would be enough for just one channel, if even that - depending how it cope with constant high current and heat

Got a Rotel RB1070 amp w/ 1 blown channel and am wondering if anyone knows if there are transistors in it that might be worth trying to salvage?
Why not repair it. It appears to be a good piece of gear.

Once fixed you can always sell it for a good amount.

A few threads here about fixing Rotel amps, and Mooly even has a thread about converting RA820 to using HexFets.

Thanks for the suggestion, this is a unit that was left at our store when the client decided to replace it. Never really had much desire to own a Rotel piece, kind of okay but nothing special. The main reason I grabbed it was to rape the speaker binding posts for my 2nd ACA Mini.

Pity, it is a much better gear than a set of binding posts.
I have to admit I have a soft spot for Rotel amps, and any Rotel stuff for that matter, having owned a few over the years.
Sentimental I guess. Still having a few old Sony CD players, Pioneer amps, Technics tuners and turntables, Yamaha and Kawai speaker drivers, as I find them pretty much indestructible.

Just took a quick, very quick, look at Amir's review of the Rotel, and if I ever needed more proof as to why purely empirical analysis falls short of telling me how something will sound subjectively, this is a good one. For a point of reference I have found Parasound products more to my liking for moderately priced gear. That being said, nothing that I've played with comes close to the ACA Mini for sub $2000!

If you are going that way you can use the whole case, including the sinks to build an ACA Mini Monster.
Just remove the PCB and the toroid.
Keep the big caps for another project.
