Is this metal enough?
Yeah, thats metal allright.
Definately "Trash-metal", you know the genre. Not excactly my fav genre, liking the more groovy metal better. The guy's are pretty good though; the drummer must have 2 double pedals for the big drums at least, and the leadguitar is magnificent indeed🙂
The leadsinger aint too good though.

hm-I just recollect my memory-once before ( decades ago) I heared one awesome LP- Jazz (metal! ????!) trio-guy on electric bass, guy with few sorts of sax and gay behind huge set of drums.....they are called "Out Door" or maybe "Back Door" and-if I remember correctly -they are (were?) somewhere from your part of world....
any tube flashing?

We Ride is an atypical track on the Strapping Young Lad Alien CD. Being straightforward "mangel" (as we in Scandinavia would say) it's also in a sense the most accessible track other than the ballad. The track is just 2 min. The other tracks are much longer and intricate. It's not trash like this track. The CD is probably too extreme for many, though. The drummer is amazing. Yes, two base drums. They call him the Atomic Clock in the linear notes.

To take an example, the main riff of the song "New Millennium Cyanide Christ" from their 1998 album Chaosphere follows the aforementioned blueprint. Haake beats a rather slow 4/4 rhythm with his hands, while the bass drums and guitars play a repetitive 23/16 rhythm pattern on top of it. As the subdivided pattern is repeated, the pattern's accents shift to different beats on each repetition. After repeating the 23/16 pattern five times, a shorter 13/16 pattern is played once. These patterns sum up to 128 16th notes, which equals exactly 8 measures in 4/4 meter.

That quote is from the Meshuggah entry at Wikipedia.

Fredrik Thordendal's solo album is even more experimental and playful.

It was interesting enough though! Before ordering their CD, is there any chance to listen to a typical track of theirs?
There wasnt much doubt, that with the tempo the big drums hammered away, the drummer was using 2 double pedals🙂
Lars Ulrich was famous once for using only one double🙂

Think I have one of those oldies, I'll have to find a box and see if it's in good condition. I will let you know
That sounds great, Tony🙂 Pink Floyd albums are really hard to find, especially if you need a few particular albums😉 Well I mean The Wall isnt that hard to find, but "Pipers at the gates of dawn" is. Apropos that made me think of Syd Barret whom just passed away. He was indeed a cornerstone of the early Pink Floyd, but he couldnt handle the pressure from being famous! He chose to live a life away from any publicity. The other members of Pink Floyd tryed to get him back a few times with no result! At some point, I think it was David Gilmour that persuaded him, he released a CD. It was called "Wouldnt you miss me" The best of Syd Barrett! Personnaly I think the album should have never been released! It kind of did nothing, for the otherwise mythical and elusive person; Syd Barrett. A cult person and a true icon.

Syd Barret, not The Beatles, is really the grandfather of Brit pop. See Emily Play is the best song he, and Pink Floyd, ever recorded.

His solo stuff was really just repeats of what he did with Pink Floyd, e.g. Arnold Layne.

Edit: Missed your post. Try this: http://www.strappingyounglad.com

New album out now.

If I were you I probably would rather give Meshuggah a try. I like Strapping Young Lad. But it's less finess than blowing your head off.

Several progressive metal bands name Meshuggah as their favourite band. I don't think many of them name Strapping Young Lad. But I also like early Einstürzende Neubauten and SPK. Maybe I should start "The mind-numbing noise thread!"

I just emailed the best song Hawkwind ever did. Hawkwind were influenced by Pink Floyd. This isn't one of them. There's some weird history behind the song. It was written and, originally, performed by Lemmy Kilmister. It was the last song he wrote for them before being sacked after a drug bust in Canada. He then formed the group Motörhead, which is the title of this song. There are some songs, like this and Modern Lovers' Roadrunner, I just love beyond reason.

I'm not into grunge. It sort of spooks me. Kurt Cobain had to kill himself to get away from the idiots who worshipped him. I grew up listening to the same music Cobain listened to, like The Ramones, Angry Samoans, Sonic Youth. Then along comes MTV and try to make him into a pop star!

Early Soundgarden is not Grunge! Its just plain heavy rock music!!
Sorry if you mistake it for Grunge!! But its merely an early Metal-rock..I am too old to bite on the MTV thing😉 😉

Soundgarden are from Seattle and came along around the time of Nirvana. The "Seattle sound" is generally what they call grunge.

I know I like one of their songs. I just don't know its name. Other than that I wouldn't recognize any of their songs. I stopped buying records in 1989. I worked in a record store or, rather, quit at that time. Don't know much about music after that! Always hated CDs. Got my first CD player a couple of years ago. Have just over 30 CDs. Still hate them. But lets face it, there are a couple of great albums made after 1989. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet.

In my oppinion, thats the only thing they have in common with the grunge bands!
Bands like Alice in chains, and Nirvana were later! Mayby contemporary, but Soundgarden were the best!! They played off old school heavy rock music!! Their music still holds today!! Like I said in an earlier thread, if the music holds, its great!!
