My favorite metal band of this decade is Devil Driver. They only have two albums, but both are bash your brains out metal ... killer rhythm and beats that just never let up. Also been listening to a lot of Soulfly and Chimaira lately, both have incredible double kick work.

I sure wish more metal/rock bands would release SACD/DVD-A discs. I don't know how many more times I can listen to Chevelle/NIN/Megadeth - Peace Sells 🙂 I'd re-buy every Tool and NIN album if they'd remaster them for 5.1, System of a Down would be a perfect fit for a SACD disc too.

Havent anyone mentioned Opeth...? 😱 i must have overlooked that reply.... Anyway, my music collection is of 80% metal albums... The rest is sami music and misc other bands.... My fav bands; Opeth, My Dying Bride, 3´rd and the Mortal, Winds, Tool, Arcturus, Finntroll, The Gathering, Satyricon, Faith no More, Therion, Primus, Borknagar, Dimmu Borgir, Theater og Tragedy, Tristania, Sins of thy Beloved.... and so on. maan, I can`t write forever...:devilr:

I personally don't differentiate much between hard rock and metal, as I listen to both extensively.

Anyway, my top ten bands are:
1. Black Sabbath
2. Metallica
3. Megadeth
4. Slayer
5. AC/DC
6. Pantera
7. Children Of Bodom
8. Ozzy Osbourne
9. The Smashing Pumpkins
10. Marylin Manson

P.S.- I do not consider Led Zepplin metal, contrary to the opinion of many. Rather, they are in a genre of their own.

Dream Theater

I can't believe not one even metioned Dream Theater! The Lead singer John Petrucci came out with an instrumental solo album "Suspended Animation" which can almost be classified as a neoclassical genre. Excellent for hifi!

It goes without saying that I'm a huge Saturnus fan. It's doom metal with a twist. Imagine a very succesful cross between old Black Sabbath and Amon Amarth and you're and the right track. Very melodic, very dark, very doom. Their "Martyre" album is the very best doom metal album made. Period. Produced by legendary Metallica producer from Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, ...And Justice for All; Flemming Rasmussen.

Another band that I haven't seen mentioned at all here is Six Feet Under. The lead singer is the best growler in the world in my opinion, and you can actually hear what he's growling. Amazing. It's solid death metal. Especially the "13" album is a must have if you like or are interested in getting the very best death metal album ever made.

I don't listen to metal very much any more, still enjoy a good guitar riff though😀 ..

The album that changed it all was Black Sabbath's first album. There was absolutely nothing to compare when that came out in 1970:bigeyes:
This was the birth of the Metal type style..
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

For all the younger people that maybe haven't heard this album, get it and behold the roots of all the other metal bands out there. Remember when you listen to it that this was 1970, nothing else even came close to sounding like this back then, sort of like when Jimmy Hendrix came on the scene in the 60's.

Anyhow that's all from me, get the disc, crank it up and rock out.....
Dave🙂
