The food thread

I've just received some terrible news . . .The store where I usually get my Brats well be closing this Sunday. I need to stock up. Do Brats freeze well? And so , for how long? This has hit me as a terrible shock. What should I do? I need to find another source. I'm beginning to shutter & shake all ready. Somebody help, please.

And no concerns about sucking any liquid into the pump. Your son has quite the setup, hopefully that makes a solid basis for some wonderful family gatherings

Roomy bought one of those newfangled sous vide in-a-stick thingamajigs. Let's see if I can make a transcendental chicken Cobb salad tonight. 🙂

I know this is OT but Nez and Scott, how are your wives doing?

Mine is almost done, just need to baste with butter and turn now and then.😀

Seriously, she came home yesterday after 12 days in the hospital. Lots of meds for at least the next 3 months. She lost a lot of weight and is weak, but her lungs and kidneys are better, and she is thankful to be getting good sleep in her own bed. It will be a long recovery but so far things look good, and I am glad to have her home.

Don't take what you have for granted fellas, things can change so fast...

I've got one, too. They're great. My favorite use is for adjusting the burners under my griddle to get equal temperatures front and back.

The infrared thermometer is useful for many things....
My electric stove is aging and the burners (solid, non-replaceable) take a long time to heat up. One has died, as long as I have one large and one small I won't replace it 😉 A bit like this one: http://www.chowstatic.com/uploads/2/4/9/1025942_image.jpg
Wish they still made these, all you can find are coil or glass-top ranges now.

Try the T-Fal pans. Cheap, better than Teflon, and they have a thermochromic spot in the middle to let you know when the temp is close to correct.

I seriously like my cast iron better than any teflon pan I've ever used. I used a Bialetti non-stick for a while (my emergency pan) and stuff sticks to it.

About the only thing that seems to defeat any pan is egg-beaters 😉
What temp does the T-fal pan change color?
