The food thread

From Wikipedia:
Traditional ginger beer is a sweetened and carbonated, usually non-alcoholic beverage. Historically it was produced by the natural fermentation of prepared ginger spice, yeast and sugar.

Ginger beer is still produced at home using a symbiotic colony of yeast and a Lactobacillus (bacteria) known as a "ginger beer plant" or from a "ginger bug" starter created from fermenting ginger, sugar, and water.

That article has more details for those interested.

Because we are good looking... dude. Cowabunga guy, 😆😆😆😀

We drink a lot of margaritas and stuff like that.

And, Catalunya is very much like Coastal California when you think about it... wine, women, olives, mountains, song.... no Roman ruins though.

-PS.. Cal, you know I'm just teasing you, huh?

Speaking of Catalans.

Those are sandwiches with fries and a romaine salad with spanish canned tuna.

In the sandwiches, half are manchego, jamon serrano and butifarra. The other half are a one egg omelette with a wedge of Vache Qui Rit. Nothing else, no mayo, nada.

Oh, ketchup on the fries and a very nice California Santa Ynez Valley Syrah.

Oh, I had to take that picture... those kids look so happy and Lamine Yamal is just 17.... he and the kid could be brothers. Oh, FC Barcelona won, 4-0.

It was a Catalan evening... and then Honda won the LBGP! Woohoo.... but in a few months, I expect we'll be eating a lot of food in places like that... notice the lack of chairs.

OK, fair is fair ( and so am I ).... so here's my picture, our picture... you know, just thinking about what we're gonna make for dinner. Just a normal weekday dinner, you know... nothing simple, just us in plain black...

Life is so tough for us Catalan Casanovas... Ole! 😉

"Ay Dios Mio, Mujer.... will that be Granacha Noir or may be just some chilled cava? And how about the salad? Poached or baked halibut?"

The things we have to do to ensure domestic tranquility and a happy stomach.

Just to show you that we also think of the other side... they actually got a chain of stores.... It was so (is) over the top;... we had to go in and spend money in there. Where else but in my old home town?

Yes, I do come from a long tradition of really weird people. At least we eat and drink well! 😉 😉 😀

Don't blame us, blame the Romans.... what have the Romans done for you lately? Well for us....

We might be talking something different. Ginger beer here is non-alcoholic. It's just an incredibly strong soda.
yes. Home made ginger beer in UK is most definately alcoholic and based on my quick research another of these weird symbiotes like in Kombucha where yeast and bacteria get together for a wild party.
No fermentation just CO2 added to the liquid. No chance of explosion.
I'm almost disappointed as you ferment everything else... 😛

Well, it's not as strong as making kimchi

We used to make it in our kitchen and dining room before we had AC installed.

Let me just say that it is something you must love when the inside temps get over 80F.

It's OK if you keep it in the garage, but then in your case it will get too cold in the winter.

I'm a little jealous Cal. I have fishing kayaks but rarely find anyone interested in paddling when the salmon happen to be running. And, you know these waters... paddling solo is not the smartest thing to do.

I was going to get a Hobie fishing kayak, but we seem to have had an increase in shark attacks lately and they go for kayaks. We've had a few deaths already this year from shark attacks to swimmers. A mate reported he was shadowed by a shark while kayak fishing and it was only a little shorter than his kayak, which is just over 4m long. It came up and bumped the hull a few times. Scary. Probably a great white.

So I changed my mind...

@Stuey Dude, I don't blame you one bit. Being on the menu might take some of the fun out of it. There aren't many shark attacks up here but it seems that when a surfboard or kayak is sampled that they're, more often than not, yellow. "Oh, nice board man, why'd you choose yummy yellow"

FWIW, I won't be fermenting kimchi... its not on my edibles list
