A couple of friends of mine and I, have tried to get around the whole inductor winding circus. So we have tried just about any type of inductor out there, only to find that any inductor with some sort of core, that be ferrite or iron, does not offer the same linearity as an air core inductor.
For the Drek, an output transformer from the dark side, could be an option, I have not tested it. My tests were made back when making the prototype of the inductor loaded power amp, in that application an OPT came in a little short😎

Hi...
I (as usually!) have a couple of quistion's ... But first thanks to ZenMod / Magura for helping me with my coil-quistion's ...
I agree with Magura, that the best is to use a inductor-calculating program, which has proven to work! .. I also can confirm that the excellent inductor.exe work's very good. Thoose dual-inductors i just made, have ~39,8 - 40 Ohm DCR, after finishing them ... the program told me, that it would be ~40,50 DCR ... So this is ideal and very good.
I wound them with 0,335mm. magnetwire, and i will have them coated, and backed when they have proven theyr'e workness 😀
But back to my quistion.
I plan to make a pass-like PSU for the Drek, but i am in doubt what kindof torrid('s) to use for it. My idea was to make a inductorloaded BoZoS-like psu. I have been reading some about, the way of using it, but have a hard time figuring out, what voltage the torrids must be.
The thing is, that i don't know if a pass-like PSU, makes up for the 0,9*vac (inductor filter) versus the 1,4*vac (capacitor filter) ... or whatever, or maybee just combine the best from thoose two world's here. I would really like some schm. (if any)... where i can see, howto attach the inductor, and where, and how big (thinking of magnetwire size etc... DUAL / SINGLE inductor or what ?) it must be. I am planning to use 5mH coils btw...
As i see it, an inductor loaded PSU, wil have to use a somehow bigger voltage torrids, than a pure capacitor PSU.
Jesper.

simple ;
go to www.duncanamps.com and download PSUD
as you wrote - inductor input filter (inductor loaded is amp , not filter) will give you less DC voltage on output than you have AC voltage on input , but exact voltage is easiest to calc with mentioned proggie

Jesper, now say after me: CLC filter😀
Now that we have come this far, you take a look at the BOSOZ article, and figure : Hmm, Pass spends 20 V on the regulation.
Then you take a look at the Drek schematic, after some searching, you will find that 36V seems to be the preferred nutrition of that fellow.
So now you got 36V +20V(the regulation)+1.5(loss in rectifiers)/1.4(due to C load= your transformer voltage.
Magura 🙂

edit:
just post that possible reg for drek ....... ( did you tried it? )
Ok ok ... I know that 42v + 42v would do, for torrid with caps-filter ... but what when you use CLC ... The voltage will be 0,9 or ? what instead of 1,4 .. Am i right ?
Jesper.

Thanks for letting me share. It took almost 6 months to build this in my spare time. It's nice to have an office to do my diying in and not be bothering everyone else in the house.🙂 😉 😀

That horn is the best sounding gadget I've ever fabricated. It's based on a tractrix flair with a bit more expansion at the mouth. It's solid down to 300hz (I cutoff at 400hz), uses a JBL 2446 compression driver (could use the more expensive TAD--big bucks), and makes everyone's mouth drop the first time they give it a listen--well, almost everyone.
It's made from paper mache on that second generation mold.
More?

I'll get you one as soon as my sweetie can be troubled--she owns the digital camera.....😉
TMI, and you better not post the wrong digital pics.
Nice sweatroom, never enough wall sockets i says.
I give up on the core-chokes, lykkedrealgood's pictures should have already shown me it's no use trying to locate alternatives.
