Hi Peter,

Hi Peter,
This reminds me of a friend of mine who used to own Jadis amps.

The resistance to ground at both sides of the output is to
help minimize absolute (not differential) drift. The feedback
from outputs to the Sources of the diff pair do the same thing.
It is, of course, possible that one or the other will do the
job alone.

Mmmmmm...... All electrons are terrible troublemakers. Moreover, they are invisible. Putting them into the right holes is hell of hard work......

ONE DAY IN LUZERN...SWITZERLAND...
Hi all,
Since you asked....
You all know what it's about so in order not to embarress anyone I'll use abrevs to keep all of us from the wrath of the gods...
Way back in 1987 I was invited to assist (actively) at the Luzern High-end show in Switzerland as...an interpretor.
We all arrived, sorted out hotelrooms and met in the major hotel suite to discuss room participations for the demos the next days...
Were involved other than yours truly,Mrs A.C. from big J.,and partner J.P.C.,K.M from Australia and a host of other high-end manufacturers invited by Patrick W. of DaCApo, importers of these high-end manufacturers brands.
Anyway, the next day the show was put to test in one of the rooms with yours truly accompanying J. in one of these luxurious hotel suites.
TT used was a prototype P.L.,nowadays AudioMec*,proto arm + a Koetsu Rosewood Sig.
Those days the nec + ultra...
Then the J. preamp+ J.200W class A amps, A.plan cabling and finally my trusty SD3 speakers.
The amps are switched on and...the fuses of the hotel blow...we fix that and while one of us is actually in the hall pushing up the breaker, forcing it in position we give it another go.
P.L. puts on Edith Piaff when given the green sign...I listen attentively and lo and behold...magic,magic....she's there with us in the room...flawless...or so I thought...
Five minutes later I see J.P from J. pulling KT88s from the JA200 amps...having put on gloves first...one KT88 after the other was turning the proverbial other cheek and lo and behold a few minutes later all of them were glowing cherry red...
Believe it or not...those were the most magical moments I ever heard from reproduced music.Uncannily realistic...
Sure enough,I relalised that demo was over,... and believe me it was the best demo ever....K.M. from OZ was called to the rescue but that gear didn't come close, Jeff R was tried...nope, not that either...
Now if anyone can put together such a magical listening session...even as short lived as that historical session, with a CDP for instance...I am all ears.
Ciao,😉

...i must be an idiot, 'cause i don't get it... the Jadis amp was
working improperly? and that's when it sounded best?

Hi,
I think the amp was working fine...for about 10 minutes, after that the output tubes were going belly up.
To be perfectly straight I heard some very good stuff afterwards, just not as magical as that one though.
I think the reason has a lot to do with synergy.
Cheers,😉

Just buid one channel of Aleph x .
A question for Peter Daniel:
did you use in your amp the Resistors R46 and R47 ,or better known as the MacMillan resistors?
The first regolation I did are with they . I try without but it need more rgolations , and the absolute dc vary a lot. At the moment I can't manage to vary VR2 , so it is fixed with a resistor (220).
It needs also the choice for R19 ,R29 (input-ground) at 68K.
This way I get absolute dc less than a volt , the same between the speakers terminal .
Thanks

I have taken output-to-differential-Source resistors
down to 2.2K without seeing any problems. Probably
they could go lower, but between this and ground
loading of the outputs and adjustment of the current
source for the diff pair, you should be able to nail the
absolute DC.

What would be a reasonable value of absolute DC right after switch on, when the amp is still cold?
Peter Daniel said:reasonable value of absolute DC ?
The 6V deviation from the Q-point would reduce the amplitude of the signal swing. This could be the most concern. If the narrowed swing is acceptable for me, I would consider the 6V reasonable.

Even if you see that much initially, the amp should
settle down to a much lower figure right away. I
don't see it as an issue.

Aleph-X
Hi everybody,
I'm very impressed by each Aleph-X making.
I'm tempted to make one too.
Can anybody direct me to the link where I can purchase
the PCB?
Thank you, God bless.

Thank you, Peter.
Could I have the email or contact for HIFIZen as I 'm
communicating from Singapore.

Hi Ben
I am from Singapore too. You can read all about the AX Pcb from

BTW, I just receive my PCB less than a week ago. They are simply fantastic. 🙂

guided tour of A-X circuit?
As a newcomeer to this enormous thread, can someone please help me with the short tour:
1 Where do I locate the latest version of the schematic?
2 Ditto latest version of the PCB?
3 Are there a handful of key posts (as well as post #1) that cover the main philosophy of the circuit, especially the latest version, and offer a "how it works" commentary, and mention valuable circuit mods and their pros and cons.
many thanks -- lost in the forest
